COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

BALLIN ONE CIC

Company Number: 13566808 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

Since its incorporation in August 2021, Ballin One CIC has been actively upholding key focus and visions of innovative engagement and initiative development - to successfully play a significant role in physical and mental health and wellbeing across the region-by way of offering the highly accessible, popular and supremely simple activity of FootGolf at fun, free, drop-in, mobile sessions; a fervent fabric to be a beacon, to champion inclusion, diversity and accessibility across all demographics- regardless of an individual’s background, sensory and physical impairment or circumstance. During the financial year 2023-2024, the initiatives have benefited the community in the following ways: Local (and wider) residents – across the region were able to access a few enjoyable and accessible free exercise sessions (through FootGolf), centric to community needs. (Particularly engaging with those in hard-to-reach groups, such as, and not limited to low participation and under-represented: Disability Blind Sports). In similar vein to the previous year 2022/23, summer 2023/24 unleashed an unfortunate season of particularly unfavourable weather- areas of play were regularly left unplayable and not safe; thus, the year 2023/24 imbued further flexibility to conceptualise new initiatives to help exercise positive physical and mental wellbeing. Memorable opportunities were created for families and children – such as providing personal opportunities (facilitating/arranging involvement within a new football fanzone feature of the local audio/talking newspaper for the Visually Impaired) with performances from Children and Adults with Visual Impairment, instilling confidence and self-esteem and inspiring health and happiness. ballin one CIC’s contact with Local Authorities was a constant during 2023/24- identifying potential recreational use of abandoned, dilapidated and/or dwindling municipal park and green spaces in the heart of local and wider communities for future initiatives. Through our initiatives in 2023/24, we have also been able to strengthen our strategy to identify and refer members/participants through to local organisations, such as Sight Loss Charities. Helping to build a more confident community, reducing the impact of isolation and loneliness.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s external stakeholders are residents of and visitors to the region, local authorities, charities and organisations who provide recreation services and/or physical and mental health and wellbeing support in both the local and wider surrounding area. The sole director of Ballin One CIC has always lived in the region and conceptualised/developed the model for the initiatives on both his experience of talking with other residents and through partnerships fashioned with local and national organisations. Ballin One CIC provides everyone participating in the free initiative(s) with an informative FootGolf scorecard- introducing the sporting activity, offering a map of the course and relevant contact details for Ballin One CIC. On completion of the FootGolf activity, all participants are given an opportunity to provide feedback on the activity, the accessibility of the event and what they would like to see as the initiative(s) and further introduction to the sport strides forth. This has helped us to build up an understanding of any gap in provision and what we can do to meet them more effectively. Our research enabled us to identify participants overwhelming desire for access to Footgolf session on weekends and implement a framework for 2024/25 for individual groups and function/events. Furthermore, positive feedback and interest in ballin’ one CIC’s unique and memorable logo design has invoked requests for apparel carrying the design. In response to such feedback, partnerships have been forged with a development aim for a concept inclusive of braille to continue to be worked upon in 2024/25.
