COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

WALLASEY BEACH CIC

Company Number: 14299785 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

The company’s purpose is to promote health, wellbeing and enjoyment of the beach and sea through non-powered water sports activities, including sailing, kite surfing, paddle boarding and swimming, and to be a community hub for participants in all of these activities. The company has benefited the community by providing an inclusive and welcoming club based environment for all of the activities mentioned above. We encompass stakeholders that provide kite surfing and paddle boarding lessons and then a centre from which these and the other activities mentioned above can be enjoyed. Through our club we provide a safe and welcoming place that local people and visitors can enjoy refreshments, showers, toilet facilities and also benefit from the wellbeing events we regularly hold. Over the last 2 years we have increased the membership of the CIC from 200 to 1200, a clear indication of the positive effect we are having in the local community.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders of the company are the members of Wallasey Beach CIC, all of whom become £1 shareholders. Currently two service providers, Northern Kites and Shaka SUP, who provide kitesurfing and paddle boarding lessons are also stakeholders as is West Cheshire Sailing Club, the members of which have been amalgamated into the company. Consultation with the stakeholders is carried out via our corporate structure which includes representatives of the members on the board of directors as non-executive directors(NED’s). The NED’s are voted into their positions by the members at the Annual General Meeting and the members can request an Extraordinary General Meeting at any time if sufficient members petition for it, as set out in the company’s articles of incorporation. Actions taken in response to requests from the stakeholders have included making available storage space, providing outside showers, a members lounge and general refurbishment of the premises to make it more user-friendly. The directors also made funds available for a complete engine rebuild on a tractor used by the sailing members to launch dinghies, as requested by the sailing members. This work and expenditure fell into the accounting year beginning on 1st September 2024 but is a clear indication of how stakeholders are represented within the CIC structure.
