Company activities and impact

Over the accounting period we have reached over 3336 people and successfully delivered workshops to the community of Pontypridd to all ages and abilities. Workshops encouraged the use of recycling, upcycling, learning new skills and using local places for nature such as Ynysangharad Park Pontypridd and Meadow Street community garden to grow opportunities for people to engage and be inspired by nature. Workshops delivered included the following: Art in the park -Exploring nature arts aimed at older isolated community and the home educated community. The group brings together people of all ages and abilities and is a reflective space for participants to share and create inspired by nature and the changing of the seasons. Stories In stitch – Creative social history projects aimed at older isolated people using stories and memories and creating new textile artwork along with photography and digital storytelling exhibitions. Creative Company – Nature based arts and crafts workshops based in sheltered accommodation and town centre venues. Nurture With Nature Family Activity Mornings taking place in Meadow Street Community Garden and the wild zone of Ynysangharad park with themes such as Halloween, lantern making, mandalas and drumming circles. We’ve also developed a number of short courses such as Introduction to rag rugging, patch work, cooking workshops using food surplice and festive workshops such as Wreath making, Lantern making. We have also worked with a variety of partners this year on projects such as with the Wales Centre for International Affairs / WCIA): Yr Apel / The Appeal Peace Builders Project using a quilt dating back to 1830 as a starting point for discussion about peace, what it means today and bringing people together one stitch at a time. Cwilt er clod y ferched Rhondda Cynon Taff– A quilt in praise of the women of RCT. In partnership with RCT Menter Iaith we produced a large scale patchwork quilt bringing together women from Merched y Wawr, RCT 50plus forum and Growing Space Pontypridd to learn and create about RCT notable women of importance. During this time we also held a large scale exhibition of ‘Stories in Stitch’ projects in Pontypridd Museum which was well attended by the community. We also used this year to build up our presence at local events and community celebrations such as Carers Rights Day, Turning Pontypridd Blue for Dementia Friendly Pontypridd, Ynysbwl festival and various community events in partnership with RCTCBC and Pontypridd Town Council.

Consultation with stakeholders

Feed back on our projects has been extremely positive with 100% of those surveyed as part of our ongoing evaluations saying that they would like the projects we provide to continue. “I cannot tell you how much joy this group has brought me these last few weeks. Such a wonderful welcome with laughs, warmth and artistic support. Thank you! “I’ve enjoyed getting out of the house and meeting people, letting me be creative, learning how to do things and about the local community. As a disabled person I spend a lot of time alone and lonely, so this gives me something to look forward to” As part of our ongoing community consultation to ensure that we meet the needs of the community we actively engage our participants in the development of our projects and future plans by running a friends of Growing Space Pontypridd Facebook group and developing relationships further with our community by monthly newsletters and activity evaluation and monitoring. We have recently developed our volunteer database who are engaged participants keen to develop our work further and champion opportunities for the community. They consult with others and develop creative ideas of their own and help steer us towards funding opportunities. We have a popular Friends of Growing Space Pontypridd social media group who help to inform our programme.
