The Living Projects Dartington CIC supports community education, wellbeing, and resilience through land-based learning and regenerative practice. Based at Pondfield, a four-acre site in Dartington, in 2024 the CIC has offered a mixture of workshops, forest school sessions, volunteering days, and open days focused on agroecology, biodiversity, and sustainable land use, as well as the space being used by numerous local community groups on a weekly basis. These activities benefit the Dartington, Totnes, and wider South Hams communities by teaching practical skills such as horticulture, natural building, and woodland management, while also promoting nature connection and environmental awareness. The site is used as a venue for community events, providing low-cost or free access to local groups and initiatives aligned with wellbeing and sustainability. As a community hub and incubator, the CIC supports young entrepreneurs and project partnerships, offering space and collaboration opportunities for those without land access. All surplus is reinvested into infrastructure and staffing to sustain long-term community benefit.
The Living Projects Dartington’s stakeholders are predominantly the local community, and members of the CIC. Informal feedback was gathered at Living Projects events that stated improvements to the roundhouse (one of our community spaces) and associated infrastructure needed updating and making more secure from the weather, and from people informally entering the site to use the spaces – we responded by revamping the space and facilities to include improved storage, security and better areas of comfort for groups meeting in the space, which is particularly important during the winter.
