COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SGSS GURDWARA WATFORD CIC

Company Number: 15151615 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2024

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, SGSS Gurdwara Watford CIC has continued to deliver a wide range of services that have positively impacted both the Sikh and wider Watford community. The Gurdwara has served as a dedicated place of worship, offering daily prayers, religious ceremonies, and spiritual guidance. These services have provided cultural continuity, emotional support, and a sense of belonging, especially for elderly members and newly arrived individuals within the community. One of the most valued services has been the continued operation of the Langar, or community kitchen, where free hot meals are offered to all visitors, regardless of background or faith. This has been especially important during a time of rising living costs, supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. In addition, the organisation has provided educational opportunities, including Punjabi language classes for young people and English language support for older adults. These initiatives have helped bridge generational and linguistic gaps, encouraged personal development, and supported integration within the wider community. The resource centre has offered vital assistance on a range of issues including housing, welfare, employment, and health. Advice has been provided in both English and Punjabi, helping community members especially those with limited English proficiency access essential services and support. Furthermore, the organisation has promoted community wellbeing through workshops on physical and mental health, and conducted outreach to schools and local institutions to foster interfaith understanding and social cohesion. These combined efforts have strengthened community resilience, reduced isolation, and promoted inclusivity throughout Watford.

Consultation with stakeholders

SGSS Gurdwara Watford CIC places a strong emphasis on continuous engagement with its stakeholders to ensure that its services remain relevant, inclusive, and impactful. Throughout the financial year, consultations were carried out with a range of stakeholders, including community members, volunteers, partner organisations, and service users. Feedback was gathered through various channels, such as: Community Forums and Meetings: Regular open forums were held at the Gurdwara to provide an opportunity for attendees to voice their views, offer suggestions, and raise concerns. These sessions were well-attended and encouraged a collaborative atmosphere. Surveys and Feedback Forms: Anonymous surveys and feedback forms were distributed both in person and online, enabling individuals to share their experiences and provide constructive feedback on services such as Langar, language classes, and support services. One-to-One Conversations: Staff and volunteers engaged in informal but valuable discussions with elders, youth, and families during regular visits to the Gurdwara, helping to identify evolving needs and emerging issues. Collaboration with Local Partners: The organisation also maintained close working relationships with local authorities, charities, schools, and health providers to align efforts, share insights, and explore new opportunities for community support and outreach. Insights from these consultations have informed service delivery improvements, the development of new initiatives, and resource allocation. They have also helped ensure that the Gurdwara remains a trusted and responsive hub for all sections of the community.
