Company activities and impact

Houghton-le-Spring Residents CIC provide free family fun events throughout the year focused on people who live in disadvantaged areas. We ran ten "Kids in the Park" events with an average attendance of 300 children and their families where they took part in outdoor games, trails and other physical activities, craft activities and were given refreshments. We also ran workshops for Easter, Remembrance Day, made fairy lights for our illuminations and Christmas. We ran a wonderful community get together as a Christmas Carol-oke celebrating a very special time of year singing around our community Christmas tree. We also took part in larger community events by providing the children's activities for the Coronation Big Lunch and Houghton Feast. We also support Acumen Community Building's Youth Clubs and Holiday and Food Activity programmes with additional activities and the thrice weekly warm spaces for adults which we support with activities and crafts. We work together in partnership with many organisations based in Houghton as well as ELCAP and Hetton Buddies where we also provide crafts and activities. We have 15 regular volunteers and a further 20 occasional helpers who all benefit from working together brining fun and friendship to our community

Consultation with stakeholders

We have a large community following of over 20,000 people on facebookand we use this as a way of testing ideas and gauging interest for projects and activities. Our engagement rates are high with an average post reaching 14,000 people with lots of interaction. We ask attendees at our events for feedback and have an ideas box to take forward new ideas. We also work closely with our local public sector agency including our local authority, police, and MP's Office. We are members of the Coalfields voluntary sector group and liaise with other organisations so that we fill gaps and don't duplicate provision. Our services are then developed taking account of any feedback.
