The Company operates the Community Shop. This is a general store located in the centre of the village and is attached to the Community Centre. Our main policy is that of selling as much locally produced products as we possibly can. We actively pursue this policy and seek out potential new local suppliers. Locals and others can but their groceries more conveniently and appreciate the locally produced products and hence reduce their carbon footprint. We have around 18 local producers at present and we estimate that we are helping to reduce peoples food miles by about 12%. We currently have four part time employees whose main function is to operate the Post Office within the shop but they also help, along with several other volunteers, to operate the shop on a rota basis.
The stakeholders are residents of the village and the directors and company secretary are all local residents who have lived in the village for a long time. To keep everyone up to date with the latest events etc they issue regular updates on social media and newsletters.
