During the financial year, Queer Minds CIC delivered two public events that created meaningful space for dialogue, visibility, and community building among LGBTQ+ people in London. On 16 September 2023, we held our inaugural Queer Minds event at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, a historic queer venue. The event featured four discussion panels with a total of eleven speakers, amplifying voices from across the LGBTQ+ community. We also partnered with Gays The Word bookshop to provide an inclusive space for queer literature, and raised over £100 in solidarity funds for Libya flood disaster relief - demonstrating the community’s global solidarity and compassion. Feedback from the first event was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees described it as thought-provoking, affirming, and a refreshing addition to London's LGBTQ+ cultural scene. Many commented that it filled a gap between social spaces and activist forums - providing a welcoming, accessible, and intellectually engaging environment for queer people to connect and share ideas. Building on that success, we hosted our second Queer Minds on 31 August 2024. We expanded capacity to meet growing demand, again platforming eleven speakers and concluding the day with an afterparty. The event created space for joyful celebration as well as critical discussion. Feedback highlighted the event’s inclusive tone, high-quality content, and importance in fostering solidarity, visibility, and cultural exchange within the queer community. Both events were offered at low cost and prioritised accessibility, ensuring participation from a diverse range of community members. Queer Minds CIC remains committed to building space for LGBTQ+ people to come together around ideas, creativity, and collective care.
