Community Interest Report Annual Report Company activities and impact. Our young leaders completed their ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) Level 2 during the financial year, which formed part of our Positive Stepz into Leadership programme for 15–21-year-olds. As part of the programme, once the qualification was completed, young people participated in and explored the concept of social action to look at a project that addresses an issue important to them in their local community. The group proposed that they would like a senior youth hub at Northfields Hall in the Ashbrow ward where they can meet with friends, socialise with their peers, and develop life skills. However, when exploring this idea, there was the fundamental issue of safety, which they identified for themselves. As such, the group applied their skills and, with support from a youth support worker, applied to the local councillors to secure funding to install CCTV cameras at Northfield Hall. This was approved and the group secured the funds to install a CCTV system at the community centre to address fundamental safety concerns for anyone attending the centre and prepare for the youth hubs development, benefiting the youth, the elderly, all members of the Ashbrow community, and in addition all those who attend the centre from the surrounding Kirklees area to hire or attend community or private events. They were also supported in developing a youth-led consultation to explore what a senior youth hub would consist of in the area if we started running open-access youth provision from the centre. We supported our young leaders in applying their leadership skills to design and roll out a consultation in the ward where they want to launch the youth hub. Other activities included launching our Positive Steps In2 Financial Wellbeing Initiative and working with the NYA (National Youth Agency) to deliver the NatWest Thrive programme as part of it. After consulting with beneficiaries, we found that young people wanted to learn more about money, investing, and real estate. Over 26 weeks, we delivered weekly sessions to 48 young people aged between 13 and 21. We also took a small group of young people to Birmingham who had been invited down by the charity Breaking Barriers-Birmingham to participate in an inclusive sports day that was put on to support ‘World Disability Day’ The charity brought together young people both disabled and able bodied to participate in a game of wheelchair basketball as well a range of other games and challenges to provide valuable insight to other young people experience, in a fun, positive and inclusive manner.
Consultation with stakeholders Consultations are fundamental in all the work we do. During this financial year, we are particularly proud of supporting our young leaders to apply their leadership skills to roll out a youth led consultation to support their social action project. We opted to employ a participatory process where our Positive Stepz Young Leaders, 15 to 21 years, took the lead in gathering the views and perspectives from their peers and their parents on What are the key issues young people face in their local community. What does a Youth Hub Club look like in 2024 What activities and services should it provide to support local young peoples wants and needs Consultation Activities Included A mapping exercise What youth provision exists in the area. What activities and services do they provide? And for what age group. Visits to 4 other youth sports and motorbike provisions in the ward to obtain views and opinions via various consultation activities. Young people anonymised Survey with 12- to 19-year-olds rolled out in the two local high schools North Huddersfield Trust, All Saints Catholic College, and Kirklees College students that live in Ashbrow, 264 respondents received Three Focus groups Pop up Youth Club- with Kirklees Detached Youth Work team to collect views.
