Stargazy FC CIC was officially founded in January 2023; our first training session was held on 26th March 2023. Based in Hayle, Cornwall, Stargazy FC is affiliated to Cornwall FA. It is Cornwall’s first ever LGBTQ+ Inclusive Football Organisation. The club provides a safe and inclusive environment, regardless of ability or experience, for people to enjoy football and the benefits of being part of a team. Since the first training session, over 50 new players have attended, and training regularly attracts over 20 individuals. People have the option to dip in and out of training without pressure. As Stargazy FC has grown and our players have developed on the pitch, a community has developed off the pitch too. The facilities at Hayle mean there is time for socialising and enjoying each other’s company after training. It is amazing to see the friendships that are blossoming and how positive the experience has been for the individuals involved. Our purpose is to proudly serve the LGBTQ+ community throughout Cornwall by providing a safe and welcoming community space. We have significantly contributed to the wellbeing of our community, through football, by offering a space for people to be themselves and by promoting both physical and mental fitness through participation. We are an inclusive club, focused on the LGBTQ+ community and our allies; we are open to all. We contribute to our community positively and inclusively.
A survey was recently sent to our players, who are our stakeholders. Responses identified that people attend Stargazy training because they love football, to socialise and make friends, to get fitter and more active and to find a community of LGBTQ+ people. All either agreed or strongly agreed with the following statements: - My football skills have improved - I feel welcome and included - I have made new friends - I know who to speak to if I have an issue or concern - I understand and support the club's ethos - I feel like I can be myself at Stargazy When asked if they enjoy training, every participant chose 'always' as their response. We a rating of 5/5 from everyone when asked "how would you rate your experience of being involved with Stargazy FC?" Suggestions from stakeholders include longer training sessions, more playing time during matches and more socials - we are reviewing these and will look to take action based on the feedback received. The most poignant response was as follows: "You guys are awesome, I love you, you're wonderful, you create such a sweet and welcoming space, I feel really well taken care of especially if I've got something going on outside my life I can come to football and forget about it for a while and run off my feelings. You guys are such a big positive influence on my mental health. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
