Principal activities of the company

Bumble Creatives CIC was established to offer Creative Wellbeing Workshops for young people, families and the wider Bicester Community through free and affordable holistic arts-based services. Our mission is to create safe spaces for creativity, skill-building, self-expression and improved mental health, responding to a growing need for friendly, inclusive and accessible community activities in Bicester. Led by a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner/Counsellor, our workshops are designed with a trauma-informed and person-centred approach, supported by a team of DBS-checked volunteers. Our core aims remain the same and include: - Reduce social isolation and promote community wellbeing through inclusive creativity. - Provide person-centred workshops facilitated by trained professionals and supported by volunteers. Collaborate with local groups and professionals to offer a multidisciplinary approach to community development. Deliver evidence-based interventions to help participants unlock their potential. - Ensure accessibility for people experiencing emotional or mental health challenges, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Additional information

Case Study: Building Trust and Creating New Friendships at Creative Minds Saba is a trans explorative adolescent male whose parents reached out to us, deeply concerned about his child's wellbeing, Saba had experienced persistent bullying in secondary school, leading to school refusal and eventual withdrawal from education. Isolated from peers and struggling with mental health, Saba spent much of their time in online spaces and found it diffcult to engage in the offline world. Their first session with us was during our fire pit evening - an informal, welcoming space where we all write our worries on paper plates, with the option to share them before releasing them to the flames. The evening closes with comfort, s'mores around the fire. From the start Saba was met with warmth and empathy by peers who shared their own Creative Minds journeys and reassured him that participation was entirely on his terms. A pivotal moment moment occurred when another young person mentioned a shared interest, and he lit up with recognition - someone truly understood him. A talented artist, Saba began bringing their sketchpad to each session, using their illustrations to to express emotions and spark conversations. These connections extended beyond our sessions to theatre outings, comic-con and the formation of genuine, offline support networks. A year on, Saba is receiving one-to-one therapeutic support and preparing to return to structured education through online learning. With the support of a caring boyfriend and a community of trusted peers, Saba is coming out of his shell and starting to thrive. His journey is a powerful testament to the impact of safe spaces, creative expression and inclusive community. (Names and details changed to protect identities)

Company activities and impact

As Bicester continues to grow, so does the need for flexible and supportive community resources. Bumble Creatives meets this need by promoting wellbeing, addressing inequalities and strengthening community connections through creativity. In our first year, we focused on delivering inclusive, creative experiences that promote wellbeing, self expression and community connection, particularly for children, young people and those facing mental health or social challenges. Our core project, Creative Minds, although only 90 minutes each week, is what drives us to continue. Key activities and projects included: 1. Creative Minds - Supported by an initial £1000 grant, this weekly arts-based group provides a safe creative space for up to ten young people aged 12- 16 who face anxiety, school refusal and social withdrawal. The sessions use the arts as a tool for dialogue and personal growth. 2. Bicester Lantern Parade - We ran four school-based workshops for around 140 pupils and facilitated a community lantern workshop where an additional 60 lanterns were made for the public parade. 3. Arts Award Centre Accreditation - We became a certified Arts Award Centre for Bicester, following funded training, allowing us to offer nationally recognised creative qualifications. 4. A2 Dominion (Housing Association) Creative Workshops - We delivered 14 multi-generational creative workshops involving approximately 120 children and adults, supporting creative confidence and social interaction. 5. Bicester Schools Arts Festival - Funded by Cherwell District Council, this collaborative project saw pupils from five local primary schools work with Bumble and artist Emily Cooling to produce silk batik banners on the them 'Stronger Together'. The project culminated in a celebration and exhibition at the local library and all participants completed a Discovery Arts Award. 6. St Edburgs Summer Carnival - Supported artist Simon Tipping and children from St Edburgs Primary School to co-create large scale, celebratory artworks. 7. Mill Arts Centre Community Stall - Partnered with the Mill Arts Centre to provide a community stall at their Garth Park event, enabling public participation in simple, creative activities. 8. Oxford Health Charity Project - Co-facilitated a six week intergenerational creative health programme at Bicester Community Hospital, alongside young people from Creative Minds. This initiative brought together young people and elderly patients through playful and reflective creative sessions designed to spark connection and conversation.

Consultation with stakeholders

We actively consulted with participants, families and partner organisations to shape our projects and ensure they remained relevant, inclusive and impactful. Feedback was gathered through informal conversations, post sesison reflections, creative evaluations and collaborative planning with schools and community groups. The feedback received highlighted the emotional and social value of our work across different projects: "I think it's fun, very nice, gets you out your room and gives you something to do, something creative, it makes you feel useful. It's very nice everyone doing something together. I like speaking to all the different ages in the room" Patient, Oxford Health Charity Project "Creative Minds is a safe space for me, school is not a safe place for me" Creative Minds participant "It was really really hard, but still really fun" Bicester School Arts Festival Workshop participant "Just wanted to say how amazing Nicolette and Bumble Creatives is - had such a fab time today! Thank you for bringing her to Elmsbrook" Parent, A2 Dominion Workshops
