Rhythm of Life Therapies CIC is a small social enterprise providing Music Therapy to people of all ages in Pembrokeshire and West Wales. Our Music Therapists are fully trained (Masters level, USW) and registered with the relevant professional bodies (BAMT, HCPC). Most of our directors have experience of working with the most vulnerable children in our community whether through schools or the NHS. In April 2024 we were awarded funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to run our Safe and Sound Music Therapy Project to support children in three community settings in the Pembroke area. The Safe and Sound Music Therapy Project has been well received and offered children prompt access to mental health and wellbeing support in their communities. Between May 2024 and August 2024 the project delivered 94 sessions to 15 children in 3 settings. All the children and young people who took part in the project engaged positively with the therapeutic process and learnt strategies to manage their emotions to help them going forward. The project will run until the end of February 2025.
We have several members of the community on our board and meet regularly to discuss project development and delivery. Between September and November (2023) we engaged with 9 school communities and asked all stakeholders what support and help children needed with their mental health and wellbeing. Through questionnaires and face to face meetings we engaged with 25 children, parents and carers. 100% of respondents said they would like to see our projects continue. We also interact with more than 50 community organisations including the NHS and various local authority service providers; through meetings, networking events, West Wales Mental Health Forum, community engagement events and workshops, drop-ins, chats on social media and our website. Our music therapy sessions are guided by the child/young person with regards content, pace and objective. Our programmes have been structured to include regular intervals dedicated to collecting feedback and evaluations from the young people and children we work with, alongside the views of other stakeholders involved in the project. We use this resource to adapt our projects to better meet the needs of the children and young people who use the service. We have developed a range of evaluation tools so that all our clients feel able to contribute and help shape future projects.
