Company activities and impact

CDMUK Annual Report (1 September 2023 – 31 August 2024) Casa de Mozambique UK (CDMUK) continues to serve as a cornerstone for cultural engagement and community support within the Mozambican diaspora in the United Kingdom. As a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), our mission is to preserve and promote Mozambican heritage, while fostering unity, representation, and development among Mozambicans living abroad. This report outlines CDMUK’s key activity during the reporting period and provides insight into the challenges encountered while sustaining our community work. Despite resource limitations, the organisation maintained its commitment to inclusivity and cultural expression. Key Activity in 2023–2024 Mozambican Independence Day – July 2024 In July 2024, CDMUK hosted a celebration marking Mozambique’s 49th year of independence. Organised in collaboration with the Mozambique High Commission and several community partners, the event brought together members of the Mozambican community in the UK for a day of cultural pride and social connection. The program featured traditional music, cuisine, and reflection on the significance of national independence, providing a platform for unity and celebration. Operational Challenges During this period, CDMUK continued to experience obstacles in collecting membership contributions. Although a dedicated bank account was in place, administrative and communication gaps made regular payments difficult to sustain. To bridge funding shortfalls, activities were supported through voluntary donations from directors, community members, and supporters. Modest contributions helped cover basic operational expenses such as event logistics, registration fees, and venue rentals. Conclusion While 2023–2024 featured a limited program of activities, CDMUK remained active in its core mission of cultural preservation and community support. The Independence Day celebration served as a meaningful touchpoint for the community, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to fostering unity and cultural continuity. Looking ahead, CDMUK aims to strengthen its administrative capacity and engagement strategies to better serve the Mozambican diaspora in the UK.
