In the year 23-24 we undertook a number of different projects related to improving health and wellbeing. We ran the second phase of a pilot Wellbeing in the Park project which saw both Buggyfit and Yoga sessions taking place in two public parks. The sessions were part grant-funded and part- Pay What You Can. We saw attendances of over 100 people in total. We continued work on the development of a wellbeing volunteer group at a community garden in Gosport and in January of 2024 we began a contract to provide wellbeing gardening services to the Primary Care Network including in year 1- the completion of one garden and start of another, establishing volunteer group sessions, completion of an audit of existing green spaces at all GP surgeries across Gosport and a referred group pilot using the principles of social and therapeutic horticulture. We were successful in receiving a grant from the Hampshire Active Health Fund which meant starting a project in February 2024 called Find Your Thing. The aim was to get people outside and moving more and was targeted in the most deprived parts of Gosport, where greatest health inequalities exist. We also worked with partners on the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme to deliver gardening/growing related activities and worked with Action Hampshire to run an engagement workshop with garden volunteers to develop an impact measuring tool for green space projects.
Through our projects we engaged with the local community- our stakeholders- to find out what they thought of the buggyfit and yoga sessions and this fed in to our application for the Hampshire Active Health Funded project Find Your Thing (FYT). Between February-May 2024 we undertook extensive community engagement with the four priority target areas in the FYT project. We attended 8 events and undertook engagement sessions with 250 people during this time. The feedback from these sessions informed how this project would develop and the types of activities people wanted to take part in. This work was instrumental in not only how this project developed but for our future direction too. Working with Action Hampshire involved working directly with the volunteers and community members referred in to the garden. We worked with the community to develop a simple tool for measuring well-being differences when entering and leaving the garden. We took on feedback as to how easy and visual the tool needed to be to ensure it was as inclusive as possible. We continued to develop partnerships and joint working with other local organisations and activity providers to ensure a joined up approach to our services to our community.
