COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

DIGITAL WRITES - DEVELOPMENT & PUBLISHING C.I.C.

Company Number: 09740449 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

The company runs arts and technology workshops, projects and events for adults, children and young people, many from less advantaged areas of Swindon or disadvantaged by special educational needs and disabilities. During the financial year 2023-2024 the company's activities have benefited the community through the following projects: 1. A Moral Paradox. 4 young people continued to work with our creative writing tutor - a published author - to write and illustrate an interactive fantasy-adventure novel. Workshops took place over Zoom and Google Docs. The young people benefited from working with and having close support and mentoring for developing their creative writing skills. 2. Literature Alive / Lost Manuscript 171 young people took part in this project, doing: - Creative Writing - Digital Art and Animation - Video Game Design - Voice Acting This project provided work for 6 artists. The project particularly benefited pupils in alternative provision, providing them with fun learning experiences and cultural visits that boosted their engagement with school. We enabled young people on the autism spectrum to be creative and collaborative in new ways. One parent said, 'I can't thank you enough for giving his passion purpose and helping his imagination come to life.' 3. Young Game Developers We ran a regular course for young people to enable them to exercise their creativity and interest in video games, working with our professional tutor, using professional software. We provided a valuable volunteering opportunities for two undergraduates. One of these is neurodivergent and doesn't expect to be able to work in a traditional setting, so we are monitoring his progress and will try to offer him as many opportunities as we can. 4. Robot Racing Club We ran a robotics club in two primary schools and staged a final race meet between the schools. Staff gave their time on a voluntary basis.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are the people who participate in our projects, the schools and youth groups we work with, the other community groups and organisations we work with as project partners, and our funders. All our projects include extensive evaluation work, including surveys and in-depth discussions with the people we work with, their teachers or youth workers, and our project partners. The project reports we submit to our funders include these evaluations and our strategies for building on our findings. The structure and content of our projects and the content of our funding applications have been strongly influenced by what our stakeholders have told us, both in project evaluations and in planning meetings for new projects. This has proved very effective in helping our work progress. We have successfully built a very engaged and supportive board of volunteer directors to represent the diversity of the people we work with and to ensure good governance.

Directors' remuneration

The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £15,767. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director's loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
