In our first year we have organised and delivered PAK Film Festival at the Reel cinema Rochdale In addition, we have organised free screenings on a volunteer basis for our community film project Miki Kharo Kashmir (2023) in Rochdale, Luton, Bradford, Birmingham and Bolton The company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: local residents (particularly those without access to cars and those with impaired mobility) have been able to buy their groceries more conveniently, either by visiting the shop or by using its telephone order home delivery service; Local residents took part in development of the festival and the film project. They provided their personal experiences or stories for developing both projects Many local residents also volunteered for both projects Locals also benefited through both projects by gaining skills in performing arts, filmmaking, marketing, meeting deadlines and team work The company has 3 company directors and 15 volunteers Locals and nationally people with Pakistani and Kashmiri backgrounds benefitted learning about their culture, language and heritage through presentations of both projects.
The company’s stakeholders are local residents of all ages, genders and backgrounds. All three directors are also local so they have better understandings of locals and their requirements. The creation of the company is direct result of consultations with locals who wanted to keep their culture, heritage and identity alive through moving image. Anyone who uses or experiences the creation of the company’s work is always encouraged to share their views on a video or verbally. This approach has enabled us to organise and deliver more relevant community projects. We consult locals for each project and through our research and interactions with locals we have established that locals are very passionate about keeping hold on to their roots and transfer it to the new generations through moving. We always talk to locals via face to face or over the phone to give them opportunity to share their personal experiences, stories or suggestions for development of a community project.
