COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

KIN STRUCTURES C.I.C.

Company Number: 13198178 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Kin Structures ran a programme of art, learning and play at the Soanes Centre in May and June last year. This saw the launch of two Kin Structures-led initiatives in Solfi, a seed of an idea for a learning centre based around sound and music, and Saturday Play School, a creative learning space for young children. Kin Structures worked with Setpoint London East Board of Trustees to recruit new trustees across May and June, with the view to increasing the organisational capacity and long-term goal of securing a lease for Setpoint at the Soanes Centre. Kin Structures worked with Setpoint London East to prevent the Council evicting them from the Soanes Centre in July, mobilising the local community and establishing the Save Soanes campaign, which is now an independent campaign group. Kin Structures were awarded 13,700 GBP of funding by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation 100 Days of Hope fund to amplify and celebrate the Save Soanes campaign, through a one-day festival called the Soanes Summer Jam, produced through a collective build process. It is the largest event Kin Structures has organised to date. We began to work with other cultural institutions in 2024. Significantly, this involved becoming Critical Friends for Whitechapel Gallery Participation team, providing them with regular input around the implementation of their new participation strategy. We were commissioned by Chisenhale Gallery to explore possibilities for a long-term social practice project with local communities in Tower Hamlets. We also worked with UP Projects to deliver a gap analysis of cultural infrastructure in the London Borough of Hounslow and propose new forms of governance for the Council Cultural Providers Network. All these projects laid the foundations for expanding the reach and impact of Kin Structures. We received funding to support us with organisational development from Do It Now Innovate Now programme in October, which has allowed us to develop a business plan for the next three years. We were also informed of Joseph Rowntree Foundation decision to award us with 285,000 GBP of unrestricted grounding funding, along with the rest of the Pathfinders cohort, in 2025.
