Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

In the financial year ending 31st August 2024, Bristol QPOC Socials delivered 14 community events in the form of free-to-attend socials for queer people of colour living in Bristol. We have engaged over 120 members of the community from August 2023-August 2024. Our socials have included attending Bristol Pride’s Parade March together, running a collage poetry creative workshop, an Eid potluck in the park, a zine workshop, a Trans POC social, as well as and as a part of our monthly QPOC meetup schedule. These activities helped reduce social isolation, build community, and create consistent, safe spaces where QPOC in Bristol could connect, express themselves, and feel seen. For many attendees, these were the only spaces where they felt fully represented and welcomed. Informal feedback highlighted how important it was to have regular, culturally relevant gatherings that centre QPOC joy and solidarity. Our work continues to respond directly to the needs of queer people of colour in Bristol, and we aim to expand our reach in the coming year by increasing our events.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders include the QPOC community in Bristol who attend and participate in our events, as well as our team of directors who are also members of the community we serve. We hold directors’ meetings every three months, where we reflect on feedback received through conversations, plan the upcoming socials, and examine event attendance patterns. We also regularly consult our stakeholders informally by encouraging feedback at events and via social media. For example, community members expressed a desire for more creative and identity-specific spaces, which led us to run targeted events such as the Trans POC Social and the Zine Workshop. We respond to this input by adapting our programming accordingly and ensuring events are as accessible and inclusive as possible.

Directors' remuneration

Maya Ishku, a director, has received £5600 in remuneration as described in the annual accounts under staff costs.
