Fam Films CIC is a film hub showcasing the brilliance of Black cinema, fostering a space where filmmakers can thrive, and wider audiences can connect with authentic stories. Carefully curated events serves as a platform for thought-provoking films, documentaries, and television programmes that challenge, inspire, and entertain and also provides a showcase for established talent but also cultivates a vibrant community, where diverse voices converge to exchange ideas and foster meaningful connections. During the financial year 2023-2024, the hub’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Provided a platform/space: Through local screenings of films relating to the history of the Caribbean community in Bristol local residences were able to watch and discuss films together in a space that feels safe and authentic to its audience. Positive Social Change: A film made by Fam Films about Black environmentalists in Bristol (Nature Rising) is being used as a tool for social advocacy, addressing racial injustice and promoting inclusivity. 2 local camera operators were employed to make the film. Diverse Storytelling: The diversity of Black voices and perspectives were amplified, enriching the cultural landscape and challenging stereotypes. Cultural Understanding: Local audiences have gained a deeper appreciation of Black culture and its contributions to society.
The company has worked with various local community groups and collaborated with community minded organisations such as Watershed Arts Cinema. We have received good feedback from the Watershed who have supported us to put on more local events. The company’s stakeholders are also the audiences at our events, and we ask all attendees to answer a short questionnaire to give feedback about the event and we encourage suggestions about future events. Thus far the feedback has been positive hoping for more regular events in the area.
