During this period, Care and Education CIC focused on becoming an integral part of the community by supporting both young people and adults who required our services, particularly those in care. We identified individuals who were struggling to find projects that could meet their unique needs or come to them directly. Our approach involved signposting individuals to relevant projects and vice versa, ensuring they received the support and opportunities they required. We have worked alongside care home provisions to support young people and adults aged 16 and over in their transition to independence. This included offering life skills coaching, mentoring, and arts and crafts sessions for those with mental health challenges and learning difficulties. Our focus has been less on revenue generation during this period, as many organisations were seeking funding for new initiatives in response to the rise in mental health issues. The growing need for mental health support and a greater understanding of mental health assessments has been a central theme. Care and Education CIC also provided support to individuals applying for employment, built volunteer groups to combat loneliness, and offered opportunities to improve social and digital skills. We worked closely with Derby City Council to facilitate cyber security courses, helping many individuals enrol and better understand the changes in communication in the digital age. This included providing valuable knowledge on staying safe online, particularly in relation to hackers and phishing scams. Additionally, we focused on supporting the elderly, especially within the Black community, by encouraging health checks that addressed common health issues such as prostate cancer, sickle cell disease, and diabetes, which are prevalent in Afro-Caribbean communities.
