COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

AYLESHAM HERITAGE COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 10376416 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2024

Company activities and impact

The records have been regularly used by family history researchers, who have been tracing their family links to both Aylesham, Snowdown Colliery and the wider coalfield, with people visiting from as far as Wales, Yorkshire and the North East. During the year the heritage centre has maintained the memorial garden to those miners killed at Snowdown situated in the heritage centre/parish council office grounds. it has also taken part in a number of local heritage events, the Elvington & Eythorne Heritage Day and the Kent Miners' Festival on August Bank Holiday at the Kent Mining Museum which finally opened in April (2022). The heritage centre also acts as a place where the community meets, fostering a sense of cohesion and well being, this is particularly important to the more elderly residents of Aylesham and the surrounding area who would otherwise local isolated lives. this is particular true of the volunteers of the heritage centre, who are nearly all retired ex-miners with a very long association with Aylesham and Snowdown, who would otherwise have little to occupy their time, but with the centre can be sure of company and a sense of worth in their later years.
