Directors' report period ended 30 September 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 September 2024

Principal activities of the company

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY Leeds Mindfulness Cooperative CIC activities for the year October 2023 to September 2024 Our aim as a CIC is to make mindfulness affordable and accessible to everyone to support physical and mental health and wellbeing and reduce loneliness and social isolation. During this year we continued our project work: delivering a program as part of the Transforming Mental Health pilot, developing the LGBT+/Neurodiverse outdoor mental health group with Horton Community Farm in Bradford, and an expanded program with follow-on funding from the Addressing Mental Health Inequalities fund. Funding from Jimbo's Fund allowed us to continue our work in East Leeds with Space 2. The Transforming Mental Health pilot has enabled us to work effectively within the Leeds Student Medical Practice and The Light Surgery NHS Local Care Partnership (LCP). We delivered fully subscribed courses to patients with complex mental health problems, particularly reaching out to people who identify as LGBTQ+, neurodiverse or who are overseas students removed from their usual sources of support. Working within this evolving program has meant a lot of learning and development of referral pathways in and out of our courses from NHS, student support services and third sector organisations. We have been working within areas of deprivation in East Leeds for the last four years and were able to continue this with projects funded from a number of sources. A course at Seacroft Forest Garden allowed us to expand our Nature-connection program, with funding from Climate action Leeds and LS14 Trust. Funding from Jimbo's Fund allowed us to continue our work in East Leeds with Space 2 with our care offering of Mindfulness for Health. The contracts with Horton Community Farm and LS14 Trust have been our main sources of trading income over this period. We have also built good links with Live Well Leeds and are regularly contracted to deliver sessions with them around mindfulness approaches to support mental health/self-esteem. We have a small amount of work from local businesses and organisations who want mindfulness as part of staff wellbeing support and this is an area we could develop further. We have continued to run a weekly online mindfulness group for people who have participated in our programs, as well as in person events and events for mindfulness trainers/trainees in the region and to provide opportunities for mindfulness teacher trainees. We received support from the West Yorkshire Business for Good program which allowed us to improve and develop systems within the coop and review our structure and review our business plan. As a result, we have much more robust policies and procedures in place to support the coop, help us manage the business and think forward into the future.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LEEDS MINDFULNESS COOPERATIVE CIC

Company Number: 10949121 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 September 2024

Company activities and impact

Through a mixture of grant-based, contract, self-funding and donation-based provision Leeds Mindfulness Cooperative teaches mindfulness and wellbeing in community settings. Participants learned tools and practices to help them live well with chronic pain and illness and with mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Participants benefited from connecting with others in a supportive environment, reducing social isolation and loneliness. We worked with community partners to deliver an expanded program and to continue our work in East Leeds and delivered a new program supporting students and others with complex mental health, with a focus on being LGBTQA+ and neurodiversity friendly. We delivered sessions to support third sector staff and volunteers, to help them understand the benefits and learn skills to use in the community with clients/service users. We continued to provide extra support through weekly sessions through the year. A significant amount of our work is delivered outdoors in Leeds and Bradford and has an active nature-based element which supports health and wellbeing.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are the participants on our courses and community sessions, as well as our partner organisations (Horton Community Farm, Feel Good Factor, LS14 Trust, Space 2, Leeds Community Healthcare Trust), funders (Leeds Community Foundation, Leeds City Council), customers from the voluntary and education sectors (Forum Central, Volition, Leeds Older People's Forum) and Leeds Mindfulness Coop members, volunteers and sessional workers. We work collaboratively with partner organisations to develop course programs and recruit participants. We facilitate open discussions with participants and use this and anonymous written feedback to adjust the programme of our activites to suit our stakeholders needs as appropriate and producing accessible materials and resources for sensory-impaired or people with limited English skills.
