Through a mixture of grant-based, contract, self-funding and donation-based provision Leeds Mindfulness Cooperative teaches mindfulness and wellbeing in community settings. Participants learned tools and practices to help them live well with chronic pain and illness and with mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Participants benefited from connecting with others in a supportive environment, reducing social isolation and loneliness. We worked with community partners to deliver an expanded program and to continue our work in East Leeds and delivered a new program supporting students and others with complex mental health, with a focus on being LGBTQA+ and neurodiversity friendly. We delivered sessions to support third sector staff and volunteers, to help them understand the benefits and learn skills to use in the community with clients/service users. We continued to provide extra support through weekly sessions through the year. A significant amount of our work is delivered outdoors in Leeds and Bradford and has an active nature-based element which supports health and wellbeing.
The company's stakeholders are the participants on our courses and community sessions, as well as our partner organisations (Horton Community Farm, Feel Good Factor, LS14 Trust, Space 2, Leeds Community Healthcare Trust), funders (Leeds Community Foundation, Leeds City Council), customers from the voluntary and education sectors (Forum Central, Volition, Leeds Older People's Forum) and Leeds Mindfulness Coop members, volunteers and sessional workers. We work collaboratively with partner organisations to develop course programs and recruit participants. We facilitate open discussions with participants and use this and anonymous written feedback to adjust the programme of our activites to suit our stakeholders needs as appropriate and producing accessible materials and resources for sensory-impaired or people with limited English skills.
