Company activities and impact

Incredible Edible Lambeth (IEL) CIC continues to support food growing through advocating for the Right to Grow, and providing members with resources, upskilling and connections. SOCIAL MEDIA We launched our new website www.incredibleediblelambeth.org in 2024 with funding from our composting project (National Lottery Community Fund). We employed a marketing officer 0.5 days a week to post weekly about news and events from IEL: we now have 2.4k Instagram followers and 1.7k Facebook followers. PROJECTS Community composting on Lambeth housing estates: from June 2022 to May 2024 we installed 45 bins on 15 housing estate sites across the borough. We created a resilient design for urban compost bins and a methodology for engaging people living in social housing with composting. We supported composting champions to consult their neighbours about installing the bins and trained people how to use them. We created designs for new signage across all sites that were installed in May 2024. We provided non-violent communication training for composting champions, with general introductory classes as well as in depth work with three estates. We provided training and funds for projects to engage local people with events and activities. This work is funded by the National Lottery Climate Change Fund. Biodiversity project: from May 2024, we supported six food growing projects on housing estates to improve the biodiversity of their spaces. We helped create new meadow areas, supported food growing, gave away plants and engaged people through workshops including foraging and art. This work was funded by Lambeth Council’s Changing Lives fund. Growing from the Root: we supported seven housing estate food growing groups to hold events at their sites. The events included planting days, free food, art and children’s workshops, seed compost and plant give aways and they provided food growing leaders with resources, connections to other growers and upskilling. The events are funded by the National Lottery Awards For All. Walking maps: We led 11 walks in 2024, with 75 participants. We employed a local person to organise and lead the walks. The walks are funded by Transport for London. ADVOCACY Right to Grow: Incredible Edible Lambeth worked with a team from Capital Growth, Hackney, Barnett and Nowadays on Earth to organise London’s first Right to Grow conference at Roots and Shoots, Lambeth in April 2024. The conference brought together more than 40 people from across the capital and was funded by IE CIC. A director also gave evidence to the Mayor’s Environment Scrutiny Committee on the benefits of, and barriers to, food growing in the capital. Lambeth Food Partnership: IEL directors actively supported the development of a newly launched Lambeth Food Partnership, helping to create a new sustainable food neighbourhood (Food Five Ways). GOVERNANCE AND CAPACITY Directors and staff: - Continued to refine the business plan - Recruited two new directors - Refined the induction process for directors and staff - Continued to refine the online accounting and budgeting system - Secured funding from City Bridge Foundation to support the development of the network 2025 - 2030 - Secured funding for a biodiversity project 2024-25

Consultation with stakeholders

IEL held an annual general meeting on April 9th 2024 where we reported to members about activities during the past year, presented our financial accounts and updated people on plans for the year ahead. Directors were then elected by attendees. We used member feedback to design the bid to City Bridge Foundation for funding to cover a new network coordinator post which will start in 2025, providing upskilling, connection and resources for members. This post will reach out to all members during site visits to gather information about their needs and to co-design and deliver training to meet their needs.

Directors' remuneration

IEL directors are paid to provide management capacity for delivering the projects. In 2024 - 2025 this was: Victoria Sherwin: Composting, Growing From the Root, Right To Grow - £7,521 Padma Ghosh: biodiversity project - £2,443 Marjorie Landels graphic design - £754 Directors contributed more than 400 hours unpaid to administering the organisation, project management and delivery.
