Earth Tenders is a Black-led organisation committed to strengthening local food systems and community health for the long term. At the core of our work is a deep celebration of Black land practices, traditional knowledge systems and relationships with the earth. We believe that reconnecting with the land is an act of resistance, healing and self-determination. Our mission is to nurture spaces where Black and Global Majority communities can reclaim land-based knowledge, build collective power and shape a future where we thrive on our own terms. We recognise that access to land, food and ecological knowledge has long been shaped by colonial histories, systemic exclusion and racial hierarchies. In response, we approach our work from an anti-colonial perspective, integrating agroecological practices, non-Western horticultural education and Indigenous cultural traditions. This informs our holistic approach to uplifting our communities, weaving together food cultivation, cooking, nutrition, mental health and well-being, creativity and cultural exchange. Through workshops, training and hands-on learning, we create spaces where volunteers, participants and community partners can reconnect with land-based knowledge and healing practices that have often been erased or devalued in mainstream environmental spaces. Our garden and community hub and services are open to all but we especially provide spaces for marginalised groups. We host workshops and trainings at our site and for brands, community projects and institutions. Beyond the garden, we contribute to systemic change through research, advocacy, facilitation and collaborations. In 2024 alone, we: - Welcomed 600+ attendees in seven months - Hired seven BPOC teachers & facilitators - Redistributed 15kg of food monthly - Hosted numerous community-led workshops internally and externally - Built and developed local connections - Upskilled dozens of participants in practical food cultivation, agroecology, herbal medicine making, cooking nutrition, etc.
Our community has been essential in shaping the initiatives of Earth Tenders. Drawing from our own lived experiences working in the sector, we understand the importance of creating a project that directly addresses the needs of those facing barriers to accessing horticultural spaces. We prioritise collaborative design and actively seek community input in developing our programs. This includes gathering feedback on preferred learning topics, crops to grow and workshop formats. We also provide dedicated opportunities for engagement, allowing for informal feedback and discussions, as well as formal feedback sessions. This ongoing dialogue ensures that our practices remain co-creative, strengthens community resilience and promotes sustainability.
The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £13,583.
