The Power of Resilience CIC was founded to address a growing need in the Tameside area and the wider North of England due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which deepened trauma and crisis for countless adults, with long-term effects still being felt today. The Power of Resilience CIC exists to provide affordable, accessible therapeutic events, workshops, and retreats for individuals seeking support and personal growth. Supporting these individuals to build resilience, gain life skills, and rebuild confidence. Through therapeutic activities, participants are empowered to reconnect with their families, form meaningful relationships, and create more positive futures. Between September 2023 and September 2024, The Power of Resilience CIC delivered a vibrant calendar of activities. Highlights included: - Monthly social events promoting connection and relationship-building. - Mental health and wellbeing courses, delivered in partnership with Living Life to the Full and GMCVO. - Weekly arts, crafts, and board games groups to foster creativity and relaxation. - The Thompson Cross 24/7 Community Pantry offering essential food supplies. - The Chillax monthly mental health and wellbeing group providing a safe space for reflection and support. In winter 2023, the CIC delivered the Thrive Arts and Crafts Resiliency Project, hosted over four creative sessions in collaboration with The People’s Gallery, Melbourne Street, Stalybridge. Activities such as card making, glass jar decoration, decoupage, and gift-making offered participants a warm and supportive space to create, connect, and build confidence during the festive season. The Power of Resilience CIC also continued running the Thompson Cross 24/7 Community Pantry at 137 Stamford Street, Stalybridge, in association with Tameside Council. Open every day 24/7, the pantry allows individuals to access food discreetly and flexibly, without the stigma often associated with traditional food banks. The pantry redistributes food that would otherwise go to waste, providing over 1,000 meals a month to those facing food insecurity. In autumn 2023, the CIC was awarded a DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) grant through Action Together, which enabled the distributing Tesco gift cards worth £20 each to individuals and families in crisis. Volunteering remains at the heart of The Power of Resilience’s mission. Throughout the year, individuals have had the opportunity to volunteer at events, workshops, and through supporting the pantry. Training is provided, and roles include collecting and distributing food, assisting at events, and community outreach. Significantly, one volunteer progressed to become a Director of the CIC, demonstrating the real opportunities for personal growth and leadership within the organisation. Throughout 2024/2025, the Power of Resilience CIC plans to expand its reach by developing inclusive wellbeing projects, therapeutic activities, and community partnerships that address food insecurity, mental health, and social isolation. By empowering individuals through creativity, connection, and shared purpose, the organisation aims to foster stronger, more resilient communities where everyone feels valued and supported.
The stakeholders of The Power of Resilience CIC include volunteers, service users, and partner organisations that contribute facilities, resources, and funding. The CIC was founded in response to needs identified through direct engagement with individuals and community groups. An annual volunteer meeting is held to shape future plans, drawing on suggestions shared throughout the year via a WhatsApp group and informal feedback. Service users contribute their views through surveys, a comments book at events, and informal conversations at the community pantry. Regular consultations are held with key contacts from partner charities and community groups via meetings, calls, and social media. Food supply partners, such as Aldi Ashton, Marks and Spencer Ashton Moss, and local community organisations are engaged through their store representatives. Project outcomes are reported to funders with supporting data, impact evaluations, photos, and financial breakdowns. New funding opportunities are actively pursued through local connections and online research.
