Dorset Women CIC started out as the Women’s Action Network Dorset, a community voluntary group, operating since 2010. In 2023 we sought to become a Community Interest Company in order to formalise the organisation structure and increase our capacity for partnership working and grant funding to further our aims. Dorset Women registered as a Community Interest Company in September 2023, and this report reflects our first trading year. Activities in this first year reflect the CIC establishing its mode of operation and exploring options for targeted work and opportunities for partnership working. All the activities outlined were volunteer-led by the CIC directors and supporter volunteers. 1. Consultation with Directors to review and shape the Dorset Women CIC strategy for 2024. 2. Reviewing and developing polices for the organisation Communications 1. Creating the website dorsetwomen.org.uk 2. Quarterly e-newsletters sent to the supporter base Events & Raising Awareness 1. Online Workshop - Women in Politics and Leadership in Dorset and BCP 10 January 2024. Panel discussion and debate with 4 local politicians and 35 attendee members of the public. Report available here: Women in Politics – Barriers and Solutions to Representation 2. Summit Meeting: Changing the Culture to Tackle Violence Against Women and Girls 6 March 2024 – in partnership with Soroptimists International Bournemouth and Bournemouth University attended by 69 Stakeholders. Summary Report here: Preventing Violence Against Women and Girls a Timeline 3. Awareness raising and public engagement on Women’s Health, the Gender Pay Gap and Violence Against Women in relation to the General Election June 2024 4. Participation in Dorset Council EDI Reference Group attending regular meetings and providing consultation on council activities. An example here: Dorset Women Response to Strategy Consultation 5. Continued promotion of the Dorset Women’s Charter Women’s Health project 1. Stakeholder Taskforce and Workshops September 2023: including NHS decisionmakers to address improving women’s experience and outcomes in health care 2. Funding secured January 2024 to create an online Women’s Health Hub 3. Recruitment of project management and IT support staff who began work on the online Women’s Health Hub March 2024.
Our primary stakeholders are women and girls who live, work or study in Dorset, particularly those who have been disadvantaged by violence, exclusion, health difficulties and economic difficulties. We consult with these stakeholders through our newsletters, website, social media platforms, surveys and in-person events. Almost 1000 women took part in our women’s health survey to shape the priorities of our women’s health programme undertaken in partnership with NHS Dorset. Other stakeholders are those in positions of power, leadership and influence whose decisions affect the goals of the Dorset Women’s Charter. We consult with these stakeholders through our partnership relationships with them in delivering activities, projects and events. For example NHS decision makers, local MPs, Council Staff and local Chambers of Commerce all of whom have helped to co-design or shape our workplans. Further stakeholders are other charities and third sector organisations with whom we undertake activities, events and projects. For example Soroptimists International Bournemouth, Acts Fast, Safe and Sound Boscombe. We attend and network with these organisations formally e.g. through Community Action Network where we often collectively decide on priorities and approaches for our workplans. Examples are the NHS Stakeholder Workshops, Violence Against Women Summit Meeting, Dorset Council EDI Reference Group or Dorset Domestic Abuse Forum. And informally through our individual relationships and aligned values. Final stakeholders are our funders with whom we have requirements and dialogue about how we deliver projects and activities.
