re-stART Creative Outreach CIC delivers not-for-profit online art sessions for people in Leeds/ West Yorkshire affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, with a focus on those diagnosed with Long Covid and chronic illnesses. Our mission is to improve mental health and wellbeing through art, creativity, and connection. We help individuals adjust to their symptoms, rebuild their lives, and learn new skills with others facing similar challenges. Long Covid affects an estimated 2 million people, especially key workers and those in deprived areas and a disproportionate number of women. Symptoms are debilitating, many are unable to work, leaving them isolated and struggling. Our art programs support this group to access new skills and improve wellbeing. Our art programs provide a weekly remote art class over a course of 8 weeks & an ongoing monthly course. We provide free art materials; enabling full inclusion because many of our participants are in receipt of benefits. So far we have successfully run 4 art programs reaching 33 people who are living with Long Covid (LC) or ME/CFS in the Leeds/ West Yorkshire community. From our data analysis 100% said they would wholeheartedly recommend this course to others. 94% of participants said it had a positive impact on their overall wellbeing and 88% found it a fully relaxing activity. This highlights the program's potential as a support in recovery from chronic illness. Furthermore, 90% participants said the course helped them connect with others and feel less isolated, emphasizing the value in building community for those living with a chronic illness. We have ongoing partnerships with the NHS Leeds Long Covid Clinic and two waiting lists for the new course. We have consistently secured funding & this drives us onwards.
