Designing Dialogue (S.H.E.D) CIC operates from Derby and works with multiple partners and communities across England. The company was established as a CIC in March 2020. Designing Dialogue (S.H.E.D) CIC trading as S.H.E.D has been designed in line with cultural and socio-civic research. Its flexibility enables it to deliver strategically designed activities, while also providing an accessible and inclusive space that supports the needs and priorities of communities. At the heart of the project is the desire to create positive civic impact, working towards greater social mobility by providing opportunities to access inspirational and educational content outside of formal organisational structures. In 2024/25, S.H.E.D continued to collaborate with partners across the UK to create opportunities for the H.E sector and public realm through its innovation and delivery. Working closely with Local Authories and Cultural and Education partners it has delivered programmes of work such as Shedding Light on Nature for Derbyshire County Council delivering the public engagement work on tender 2 for their Local Nature Recovery Strategy touring Derbyshire. Machines of the Future, a collaboration between UKNA, University of Derby and the CiC welcoming a cohort of first generation to H.E setting and combining arts and technology through its innovative summer school. From a research and community engagement perspective, S.H.E.D’s flagship programming, and industry reputation has led to the CIC’s CEO being invited to contribute and deliver talks at a number of events, training sessions and research conferences. Including, for Westminster H.E on being a spinout, for SOCTIM, RSA, CHEAD and H.E sector. Director Rhiannon Jones represents the CIC as a member of the National Coordinating Centre of Public Engagement, is a trustee of New Art Exchange, Nottingham, sits on the steering group for Bolton Gate Arts CIC, Fellow of PASCAL, Chair of Contemporary Art Working Group for Cumulus Association Art and Design Global Network and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. The CIC continues to develop its regional, National and International programmes, networks and partnerships. The work of S.H.E.D as the flagship Project in association with University of Derby as a civic flagship programme as one of its Civic Institutional Success Measure.
Designing Dialogue (S.H.E.D) CIC is an arts and civically engaged company with research and practice expertise. Its group of stakeholders reflect this approach, and include representatives from the University of Derby, Culture Derby, Port Vale Foundation Trust (community sports foundation), University of East London, Coventry University as well as independent artists and practitioners with cultural sector and licensing expertise. Stakeholders were engaged in regular email, phone and video call communication throughout the period, providing guidance on funding applications, business development approaches, CIC partner agreements and intellectual property, which has been incorporated into business activity going forward and reported on. They are kept aware of the CIC’s financial performance.
Directors’ Remuneration is disclosed in Note 3 to the annual accounts, totalling £5,700 for the year. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which are required to be disclosed.
