The company activities this year have been: Tree Sales: 20 saplings to Skirlaugh Parish Council 600 Saplings to Plant a Tree Today Tree planting and community project for Hull City Council Hull North Area Committee Twice weekly Sessions at ‘The Plot’ an acre of land consisting of tree nursery, wildflower meadow, woodland walk, pond and vegetable growing area. The participants in these sessions are referred by NHS Mental Services and the Recovery College. On average 8 beneficiaries were at each session Hull University Students: We have hosted the student gardening club who attend on a weekly basis during term time to use our site and volunteer to help us maintain the site Weekly session at Ganton School with a group of 8 – 10 young people with learning difficulties have taken part in gardening activities. The vegetables and fruit grown have been used in their cooking activities. This work aids the independent living ambitions of students
Consultation Down To Earth Hull Community Interest Company stakeholders include school staff, NHS staff and beneficiaries. The beneficiaries are consulted about activities individually so that work can be tailored to their interests and needs and as a group. This occurs during refreshment breaks at the sessions and one to one conversations. Down To Earth Hull Community Interest Company liaises with the NHS through meetings and site visits by staff and with school staff at meetings and through visits to the schools. The main other stakeholders consulted are the neighbouring allotment holders who have a committee and run a small shop. Down To Earth Hull Community Interest Company ensures that this committee are made aware of planned activities and sessions asking for comments and feedback. In addition, Down To Earth Hull Community Interest Company helps with the allotment committee activities including summer show and community orchard pruning/ care. Down To Earth Hull Community Interest Company is a member of the Hull Growers Network which meets bi monthly to discuss activities across the city including seed swaps and biodiversity initiatives.
