Directors' report period ended 30 September 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 30 September 2024

Principal activities of the company

n the financial year 2023/2024, Nostalgia Nights CIC continued our activities organically. After a successful community event in Hackney Grow in August 2023, supported by Jagermeister, we were invited to join them at the Save The Night launch at Fabric Nightclub. This opportunity allowed us to operate in the nightlife space which is a community in need of support with so many venues closing across the country. Our project U SHIRT adds an element of interaction and creativity beyond the dance floor. We were invited back to Fabric on several occasions, including for their 24th Birthday celebration. This was an encouraging sign that we are having a positive impact in our work. At Fabric, we met some DJs from Brixton Radio which led to us supporting a fundraiser at the station and raised a modest donation of £180. Our work has taken us into many pockets across London, The common theme has been built on the 2 pillars of the business - celebrating creativity and creative health alongside a desire to reduce waste. This has taken us to the National Portrait Gallery to support an event curated by young people for young people. We have also been to Somerset House to run a workshop for the behavioural change agency, Hubbub. We were also invited by a collective called Commune to Shoreditch Arts Club to support an evening celebrating art and music. From nightlife, we naturally turned towards the festival community. We worked with Brockwood, a small festival in the UK, and at Sziget in partnership with Jagermeister as part of an activation focusing on sustainability. U SHIRT took us overseas again for an event in New York which was received positively by the audience there. The work we do seems to have a positive impact on people wherever we put ourselves which has been very rewarding. As a Hackney based business, we have continued to focus our efforts on the borough itself. We have maintained a strong relationship with the organisers of the Hackney clothes swap and supported their events. In Dalston, we continued to support the swap shop, Fuck Fast Fashion, by sourcing our second hand T-shirts from them while also running printing workshops from there. We have also kept our ‘pay what you feel’ pricing model for retail customers when we have events. In July 2024, we launched our own event called Braintopia. This was hosted in a gallery in Hackney and was open to the public on a pay what you feel basis once people we leaving. This enabled us to keep the event inclusive for the community. It was very well received and we found a great variety of the community engaged with us - from young to old. The overall feedback and testimonials from collaborators, guests and customers has been overwhelmingly positive in the financial year 2023 to 2024. We have been successful in pursuing our mission to support the creative health of our community while reducing waste from the fashion and textiles industry.
