Swale Media Arts Centre (SMAC) has now been trading for four years as a community hub, gallery, and media centre with IT equipment, room hire, film shows and a small museum. We work with the local community to provide supportive, low and no charge workshops and activities for a variety of groups and organisation from across Swale. We have this year continued engaging with local artisans and groups interested in hiring our exhibition space on the ground floor of the building, as well as hosting exhibitions and events funded by grant funding. We have continued to run our Mindful Monday Wellbeing Group and film nights, at no cost to users as well as working with other Heritage Groups in the Borough in order to stimulate activities to increase footfall to venues. We aim to continue our work with other local heritage groups and build on our community activities to support those in need across Swale. However, because a difficulty in extending our Lease we will cease to operate ay 34 High Street, Sittingbourne from April 2025 and will, going forward, be providing activities at other venues in Swale. The Mindful Monday Group will move to the Heather House Community Hub, and we will seek premises to continue the film events and the Board will be working to establish additional activities in Swale as the year progresses. We have, and will continue to look for funding to assisted our work in the coming year. The organisation continues to be run by volunteers and a Board of Management (also volunteers).
Stakeholders have included the local community, funders, members of our Friends of Swale Media Arts Centre, the members of our Board of Management and of course our Volunteers who do a great deal to support projects. We continue to work with the local Community Volunteer Service organisation to share best practice on a number of procedural matters.
