Company activities and impact

Williams Creatives continues to champion its mission as a not-for-profit theatre organisation rooted in the heart of Leicestershire. The company is dedicated to creating inclusive, accessible opportunities for individuals of all ages to engage with and develop their skills within the performing arts. This year marked a particularly significant chapter in the company’s history, as it celebrated its fifth anniversary through a wide-reaching programme of creative work. Despite ongoing challenges within the arts sector, the company remained resilient and deeply committed to nurturing talent, producing innovative theatre, and making performance opportunities accessible to all. Throughout the reporting period, the company made considerable progress in fulfilling its objectives through a range of original productions, skills workshops, touring performances, and outreach activities, as detailed below: Miscast by Candlelight To launch the anniversary season, the company staged Miscast by Candlelight at Peter’s Pizzeria in Leicester in November 2023. This intimate and atmospheric musical theatre cabaret reflected on the company’s five-year history of challenging casting norms and amplifying diverse voices. Delivered entirely by volunteer performers from within the company, the performance created an emotionally resonant and celebratory environment. The candlelit setting contributed to a powerful evening of storytelling and song, honouring the company’s inclusive ethos and its journey so far. Miscast: Encore! In April 2024, Miscast: Encore! was staged at the Sue Townsend Theatre for a three-night run. The production marked a milestone for the company as the first to feature both junior and adult members performing together as one cohesive ensemble. The show revisited highlights from previous Miscast productions while showcasing new material and cast members. The production was praised for its inclusivity, innovation, and collaborative spirit, attracting strong audiences across the run and standing as a proud example of the company’s evolving identity. Threads 2024 and Corby Pride Following the success of the original 2023 production, Threads was reimagined for 2024 as a touring production, with plans to bring the show to venues across the UK. The redevelopment process involved a revised book, expanded score, and a refreshed cast. However, due to low pre-sales and logistical limitations, the tour was cancelled prior to launch. Despite this, the cast were invited to perform five musical numbers at Corby Pride 2024, in front of an audience of approximately 500 people. The performance was a success and allowed the company to share the show’s messages of self-expression, solidarity, and empowerment with a new audience, reinforcing its commitment to LGBTQ+ representation and outreach. Dark Temptations In October 2024, the company debuted Dark Temptations: A Twisted Cabaret at the historic Britannia Panopticon in Glasgow, recognised as the world’s oldest surviving music hall. The production featured original monologues, stylised musical numbers, and immersive cabaret elements. A cast of eight performers from Leicester travelled to Glasgow to deliver the sold-out performance to an audience of 50. The event marked the company’s first touring experience outside of England and was a highlight of the year, offering members a professional and culturally rich performance opportunity in a nationally significant venue. Cinderz Story at Ringwood Hall In December 2024, the company presented a revised version of Cinderz Story at Ringwood Hall in Chesterfield. This modern reimagining of the classic Cinderella tale was rewritten to be more family-orientated and accessible for a broad audience. Performed by a cast of 12 company members, the show offered humour, heart, and interactive moments tailored to children and families. The performance was attended by an audience of approximately 40 people and further demonstrated the company’s commitment to accessible, family-friendly theatre and regional community engagement. Skills Development Workshops Two skills workshops were delivered during the reporting year, focusing on audition technique, vocal performance, and character exploration. The workshops were delivered free of charge and attended by a total of 15 participants. While delivery was more limited than in previous years, these workshops laid the groundwork for a wider commitment to embed skills training as a regular feature of the company’s future programming, supporting both new and experienced members in their ongoing development.
