COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

Year Ending: 30 November 2024

Company activities and impact

Creative Walden CIC recognised a need for young people to be able to express themselves creatively in short stories, poems and plays. This was very limited at School so a weekly creative writing group ‘Writers room’ ran all year, funded locally so as to be a free service to all children in the surrounding communities regardless of their income status. During the process of our projects we were able to assist in mentoring young people who have since used this experience to follow their passion into the appropriate university courses. In 2023 We supported a Late Night shopping event and have also contributed to an exhibition at Saffron Walden Museum In 2023 we launched three poetry books. In 2023 We launched Creative Wellbeing to teach children to be more robust in this fast paced world.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Directors are parents who live locally and recognise the various needs for young people in the community to develop their artistic and creative skills. We have spent a lot of time consulting parents from all spheres of the community about what creative arts opportunities are really needed in the town and local area for young people. We have consulted other community groups in the area too. In 2017 we made a film, interviewing local children about the activities they like most and ones they would like to experience. We have feedback forms completed at our activities. We have had excellent feedback from the council who stated on record that the area was incredibly fortunate to have a group like Creative Walden CIC. We continue to get positive feedback which helps us deliver ever-better projects. The majority of the children asked in our 2017 consultation film, said they’d like to get involved in a film project. Creative Walden CIC directors applied to the National Lottery and were awarded a grant to be able to offer a comprehensive experience of a comprehensive film production and a wide range of activities connected to the process of making that film (Including a ‘making of’ film that showed the process). After 8 years we have continued to refine our services in line with requirements and the success of our groups.
