Directors' report period ended 31 October 2024

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 October 2024

Principal activities of the company

During the financial year, the principal activity of the company was the delivery of free, structured basketball sessions to support physical, mental, and social development within the local community. Despite not being able to secure external funding, the company maintained a strong commitment to its mission of empowering young people and fostering community engagement through sport. We continued to run voluntary basketball sessions five days a week, for one hour each day, benefiting a wide range of participants across different age groups and backgrounds. The key objectives and impacts of our basketball programme included: Physical Activity & Health Promotion: Providing consistent access to high quality basketball coaching, encouraging physical fitness, teamwork, and discipline. Youth Engagement & Mentorship: Creating a safe and positive environment where young people feel supported, gain confidence, and build strong peer relationships. Skill Development & Opportunity Creation: Helping participants improve their basketball abilities, with a long-term aim to connect them with further opportunities such as school teams, scholarships, or elite training pathways. Mental Wellbeing & Resilience: Using sport as a tool to reduce stress, boost self-esteem, and offer a constructive outlet for emotions, particularly for those facing challenges in school or at home. Community Building: Encouraging inclusion and social cohesion by making sessions accessible to all, regardless of ability or financial background. Through dedication and community spirit, we delivered over 250 hours of volunteer led basketball coaching during the year, making a meaningful difference in the lives of the young people we serve even in the absence of financial backing. Our focus going forward will remain on expanding participation, seeking sustainable funding, and strengthening partnerships to broaden the reach and impact of our basketball programme.

Company activities and impact

Throughout the financial year, although we were unable to secure the funding we had hoped for, our commitment to supporting and uplifting the community remained unchanged. Despite these financial challenges, we continued to carry out volunteer work focused on basketball development and youth engagement. We delivered free, community based basketball sessions five days a week, dedicating one hour each day to coaching, mentoring, and promoting physical activity. These sessions provided young people with a safe and structured environment to stay active, build confidence, learn teamwork, and develop important life skills. By consistently showing up and giving our time, we offered stability and positive role models for local youth many of whom may not have access to organized sports otherwise. Our efforts not only encouraged healthier lifestyles but also strengthened community ties and created a sense of belonging through sport. This ongoing commitment, delivered without any external funding, reflects our passion for making a meaningful impact and our belief in the power of sport to change lives.
