The core purpose of Saltburn Community Response (SCR) is to promote and organise community activities around the themes of community, wellbeing and environment. Following consultation and discussion with community members in March and April 2024 it was agreed that we would continue to organise and support activities that promote community connection, connection with people, between people and between groups in the community. The Well Being Fair we organised in October 2023 was a successful event involving charities and local community groups and it was felt that we could build upon this in the coming year. The Library of Things (LOTS) project continued to grow and develop. Funding was applied for to extend this project so that it could be more sustainable. We received funding from the Electrical Safety Fund (£2200) and Woodsmiths (£2000). The main regular source of expenditure for the Library of Things is the monthly rent for storage space and for people to come to hire the equipment. This funding then provided some security for rent and enabled us to purchase more tools and equipment for hire. The funding from the Electrical Safety Funding included the purchase of a PAT testing kit and training for one person to be qualified to use the kit. This was completed in February 2024. This means that we are now self-reliant for PAT testing electrical equipment, and this will save money and time. The Library of Things relocated to a new venue, Creation (art and craft studios) in the centre of town, it is an accessible venue and people visit there to view the art/craft items on sale. The rent is also cheaper at £100 per month. We supported the restarting of Keeping it Clean at Saltburn (KiCaS), a monthly beach cleaning event that had stopped for various reasons. This is now happening regularly on a monthly basis and has become an engaging community event. The Saltburn Directory of activities and groups in the town continues to be in use, hard copies are available in the Community Cupboards and at the Library. A copy of the directory is also pinned to the Saltburn Community Response Facebook group / page. The directory will be updated. Community Cupboards have continued to be maintained and looked after by members of the community and following consultation it was agreed that these would be Little Libraries so that people could give and take books to read. Warm Spaces were again set up and publicised in the town in the winter months so that people could access warm places with free drinks and in some venues food is provided. Our other activities have included various workshops, Christmas jumper, Halloween bunting and pants workshops with a purpose of bringing people together and promoting recycling and sustain-ability. We have also held seed and seedling swaps and an Easter trail. As the main active project has been the LOTS the directors decided that the company name should reflect this change, and this will be the focus for our activities. The focus and name change starts at the beginning of the next financial year, 01.11.2024.
Community members were invited to meet up to identify projects, activities and priorities for Salt-burn Community Response. Community Builders represent a diverse range of community groups, ages and individuals including Saltburn Valleys, Saltburn Community and Arts Association, Rotary Club, local councillor, youth group and Wild Things (outdoor activities for children and young peo-ple). Community meet ups were held in 05.03.2024, 08.04.2024, 10.06.2024, 05.08.2024 and 14.10.2024 and all members of the community were invited so that priorities for Saltburn Community Response could be decided and activities planned.
