This year has been a busy year of networking to build awareness of the Earth, Mind, Body, Spirit modality called Wayapa Wuurrk which means Connect to the Earth. As the first European practitioner it will take time to grow awareness of this holistic & inclusive modality accredited by the International Institute for Complementary Therapies. I’ve run introductory sessions to Wayapa online and in person. These have been received well and provided great feedback & testimonials. In September 2023 I was invited to Wolverhampton University to share Wayapa with the apprentice Occupational Therapy (OT) students there & explore the use of the Kawa (River) Model for OT within a group setting, which has been inspired by my Collective Wellbeing journey as a Wayapa Wuurrker & OT. Feedback included “The learning about the environment and its connection to us.” Kofi. “Interactive, informal, non-judgmental, plenty of time to digest information.” '"Learnt" everything – new concept to me entirely, no prior knowledge.' Becca “Very informative and makes you look at things on a deeper level.” Bianca. “Mindfulness, opportunity to discuss openly about fears & goals. How the environment has an impact on wellbeing. Thank you.” anonymous OT student. October 2023 I was invited to attend the Forest School Association (FSA) Conference in Essex. I was able to share Wayapa with several teachers & teaching assistants during ‘Wuurrkshops’ over the 3-day event. Feedback was positive these are some of the testimonials from these sessions ““Lovely to hear about something completely new – yet how it CONNECTS with so many other ideas and experiences I already have had.” Tina FSA attendee. “Conversations around indigenous culture & artwork.” Kyle FSA attendee, who also said he was grateful to learn about Connection. “Movement staying around the hawthorn tree basked in sunlight being with community will stay with me! Thank You Debs.” Ngang FSA attendee. Some of us sang Our Wayapa Gratitude Prayer together & this became known as the ‘powerful song’ at the conference. November 2023 Wayapa Practitioner Trainer Training (online) I began my journey to become a Wayapa Practitioner Trainer with an immersive week with Sara, Jem, Cilla (fellow trainee) & an Awesome Cohort of practitioners, including nurses, psychologists & a fellow OT. It was a truly Amazing week of wonderful connections with so much learning & the humble knowledge of all that I don’t know, for which I will always be eternally grateful to this incredible community of practitioners & trainers for their teaching, nurturing & helping me grow. It feels a real privilege to begin this part of my journey & an honour to help grow the community of Wayapa practitioners on our European continent. January – July 2024 Networking opportunities both locally & online allowed more sharing of Wayapa Wuurrk & opportunities to grow, learn & develop my Business Skills as Founding Director. Including a three-month Social Enterprise Leadership Course with Bishops Grosseteste University Lincoln provided an opportunity to learn & develop business & entrepreneurial skills, network with fellow CICs locally & the Abundant Accelerator Programme with Beki Eakins provided an opportunity to align with OTs internationally & further develop Business Skills & entrepreneurial strategies. The Inner Development Goals from the United Nations align with Wayapa Wuurrk core values & advocating for Generational Wellness as the roots of our Collective Wellbeing as Planet & People. This online space provides a platform to raise the profile of Wayapa & potentially bring Collective Wellbeing benefits to many people. During this time, I’ve been able to formulate a plan for an Innovation Hub project with the Royal College of OT to share the group ‘wuurrk’ potential of the Kawa River Model for people in various settings. This project has been inspired & informed by my learning journey as a Wayapa Wuurrker. It has provided me with an Earth Based Lens that enhances my Connection to Nature. It is a pleasure to be able to share this with others now.
