Tangible fixed assets
All fixed assets are initially recorded at cost. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:
Freehold property - No depreciation charged
Depreciation on the property is not considered material. This is a result of both the long useful economic life of the asset concerned and the high residual value. The company's subsidiary Bradstone Lighting Limited has a policy and practice of regular maintenance and repair such that the asset is kept to its previously assessed standard of performance and that it is unlikely to suffer obsolescence. This is a departure from normal accounting standards.
