The company delivers theatre-based workshops and performances to support children / young people and their supporters to navigate life challenges in the Yorkshire and Humber region. During the financial year 2023-2024 the companies’ activities have benefited the community in the following ways. Delivered ‘Create and Connect’ a 6-week drama focused project for 2 youth / community settings. These sessions worked with a total of 38 young people (9-16) in Goole and Market Weighton, East Yorkshire. The young people explored themes of identity, community and aspiration for the future. Each group created a short digital resource guided by their interests. A further outcome of the sessions in Goole has involved some group members establishing an ‘environmental taskforce’ for their local community. Delivered, ‘What do you need?’ a six-week programme of practically based drama workshops for 12 young people (aged 16-25) with additional needs. The aim of these to support connection, develop communication, confidence and teamwork skills. The group explored everyday dilemmas / challenges they might face. A participant commented “I’ve put myself forward, I’ve gone outside my comfort zone, I’m proud of this.” A support staff member commented “The sessions were very inclusive, they offered opportunity for thinking and discussion around emotions, neurodiversity and support needs.” Delivered another 30 performances of ‘On Your Marks’ Theatre in education pro-gramme. The play and workshops targeted for children in key stage 2 were experi-enced by 3600 young people. Sessions focussed on supporting young people to ex-amine the components of emotional health through exploring resilience and positive relationships. The storyline and workshops were both developed and trialled with groups of young people, their teachers and received specialist input from a member of CAHMS Feedback received by participants and staff highlighted the benefits of the programme in providing participants with an opportunity to share their ideas and extend their vocabulary when discussing feelings. 100% of survey respondents described the programme as excellent or very good with 100% saying that they would recommend the initiative to a colleague. With a research process involving young people as both audience and authors Dra-matic delivered a further 20 workshop sessions with 1950 pupils in 10 secondary schools, 2 pupil referral units and 1 special needs school. The sessions titled ‘One of My Friends’ focussed on exploring pertinent issues for young people in years 7/8. The workshops used monologues and discussion to support participants to examine deci-sion making processes surrounding the use of alcohol and vaping. Together with ex-ploring the elements that can support our emotional health. The sessions offered young people the opportunity to consider their ideas in relation to these issues in a safe, controlled environment and as a teacher described the work “It provides a rehearsal for life.”
The company’s stakeholders are both participants of our workshops and performances and those organisations which we collaborate with to deliver on our aims. The stakeholders are children / young people and their families, supporters and organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region. The approach Dramatic takes when working with groups for multiple sessions always allows opportunity for participants to reflect on activities undertaken, to locate interest in the sessions and to propose potential ways forward. We conduct this consultation in multiple ways that are appropriate for the specific group’s needs, this includes sur-veys, ‘graffiti walls,’ facilitated discussions and drawing. The information we receive is listened to, explored, and informs the decisions we make about both the process and content of the work we deliver. Through obtaining this information we have been bet-ter able to understand our stakeholder’s engagement in the work we do together, and this knowledge helps us to determine how we shape strands of future work. Dramatic has consulted with various organisation leaders prior to projects we have undertaken. Including staff and students at ‘The linkage College’, Participants and staff at: The Moorlands (Goole) and The Acorns (Market Weighton Youth Action) Alongside Public Health officers, school staff and relevant VCSE organisations. Con-sultation hastaken the form of initiating conversations with key organisations and re-sponding to enquiries about areas of concern for young people such as health and wellbeing, mental health or social interactions. Dramatic has consulted with a range of locally based organisations that support children and young people to ensure that our output remains relevant and useful to these groups while supporting the impact of the organisations and signposting young people to additional resources. All partners that we deliver for / with are requested to complete a survey that asks them about their experience of collaborating with us and asks for suggestions for improve-ment and for details of any additional or unexpected discoveries or unexpected out-comes that were made in the process. We directly consulted with the members of 2 youth-based provisions (38 young peo-ple) on the development of project ‘Create and Connect’ that focusses on young peo-ple’s experience of the world in their specific geographic area. Our consultations with young people at “The Linkage College” helped us to co-design the 6-week input to ensure it was responsive and relevant to participants and their in-dividual additional needs.
The accounts show payments made to Directors in the detailed P&L. The amount paid to Directors was £14,475. These payments were made as self employed actors/facilitators. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
