The Company’s Activities and Impact: The Mighty Anglers CIC 1. Company Mission and Community Purpose The Mighty Anglers CIC is a non-profit Community Interest Company dedicated to leveraging the therapeutic benefits of angling to improve mental and physical wellbeing, combat social isolation, and foster environmental stewardship within our community. Our core belief is that the tranquil and engaging nature of fishing provides a powerful platform for healing, connection, and personal development for individuals from all walks of life. All our activities are designed to directly serve our community, with a particular focus on supporting vulnerable, young or disadvantaged groups. Any surplus generated is reinvested directly into the company to expand these community-focused activities and enhance their impact. 2. Principal Activities Undertaken in the Period During the tax year 2023/2024, The Mighty Anglers CIC undertook the following principal activities: Weekly Kids Club: We hosted and ran 32 Saturday Kids Fishing Clubs. Enabled children from as young a 3 to 16 in the community to participate and lean Angling. Providing everything needed at a super low cost to ensure it is affordable for with a average of 30 children attending each week. The children progress each week in not only angling but all key skills in life. Structured Therapeutic Angling Programmes: We delivered 14 structured angling sessions specifically designed for individuals experiencing mental health challenges (such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD), veterans, and people with disabilities. These sessions are led by qualified and insured coaches in safe, accessible, and peaceful environments. Community Fishing Days: We organised and hosted 2 open-access community fishing days, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for families, young people, and socially isolated older adults. These events provided free or low-cost access to equipment and tuition, removing barriers to participation. Environmental Conservation and Education: Our commitment to the environment is integral to our mission. Our activities included: Organising 4 lake-side clean-up events, where our volunteers and participants removed an estimated 100kg of litter from the waterways. Partnering with Wildlife Trust on a habitat improvement project, including planting native reeds and monitoring water quality Delivering educational talks to participants on responsible angling practices, fish welfare, and local ecosystem awareness. Volunteer Training and Development: We recruited and trained a team of 14 dedicated volunteers from the local community. They received training in safeguarding, first aid, mentoring, and angling coaching, empowering them with new skills while forming the backbone of our service delivery. Impact and Community Benefit Our activities have generated a significant and measurable positive impact on our community beneficiaries and the local environment. a) Improved Health and Wellbeing: Mental Health: We provided over 122 hours of therapeutic outdoor activity for more than 210 individuals. Qualitative feedback and participant surveys consistently highlight key benefits, including reduced stress and anxiety, improved mood, increased feelings of self-worth, and a profound sense of calm and mindfulness derived from being in nature. Physical Health: Our sessions encourage gentle physical activity, improving mobility and fitness for participants, particularly older adults and those with sedentary lifestyles. b) Reduced Social Isolation and Strengthened Community Cohesion: Our group sessions have successfully created a peer-support network, fostering friendships and a sense of belonging among participants who previously felt isolated. For many, The Mighty Anglers has become a vital social hub. Community days brought together 700 local people, strengthening intergenerational connections and building a more cohesive community spirit around a shared positive activity. c) Skills Development and Personal Growth: Participants have learned the practical skill of angling, a lifelong hobby that promotes patience, problem-solving, and concentration. Our volunteers have contributed over 1500 hours of their time, developing valuable skills in leadership, communication, mentoring, and event management, thereby increasing their own employability and confidence. d) Positive Environmental Impact: Through our direct conservation work, we have tangibly improved the health and cleanliness of local blue spaces, including Kernow Fishery, making them more pleasant for the entire community to enjoy. By educating hundreds of individuals on responsible environmental practices, we are cultivating a generation of custodians for our local natural heritage. In summary, The Mighty Anglers CIC has successfully fulfilled its community interest purpose by providing essential services that are not otherwise available. We have used the simple act of fishing to create profound and lasting positive change in the lives of our participants and the health of our local environment.
