During the extended period to 31 October 2024 the company ran two annual Southend Jazz Festivals in September 2023 and September 2024. The accounting period has been extended to fall in line with timing of the festival and therefore for one year only the accounts will include the results of two festivals. Both years events continued to be popular, and continue to grow each year. In accordance with the objectives of the CIC they generated activity within the community and brought in jazz lovers from further afield to enjoy the activities on offer which included performances and workshops for children and families. Both festivals were a success with many venues and artists supporting across both years and are looking to support for 2025 and beyond. 2024 brought the festival’s youngest ever line up, bringing down the average age of both artists and stakeholders and encouraging involvement of the younger community. The 2024 festival also provided more free to view events than ever before bringing increasing accessibility to the stakeholders.
The company’s stakeholders are the local community, visitors to the festival and the artists involved in both the performances and workshops. Two of the company directors are actively involved in the jazz community in Southend and have worked hard to ensure the activities offered during the festival have been advertised and supported for the benefit of the community. We ensure that we request feedback in order to continually evolve the festival and provide as many of the activities and performances that will grow the festival over the coming years. We also convene three times a year with a Community Advisory Panel made up of a range of stakeholders within the Southend Creative and Business Communities. They offer guidance and advice of how to best shape the festival for the benefit of the community.
