Sheffield Masonic Hall Company Ltd (Registered number: 00008952)

Chairman's Report
for the Year Ended 31 December 2024

The Chairman presents his statement for the period.

Financial Results
After a number of years with very high energy costs, I am very pleased that they have returned to a more normal level, and we have been able to work without the restrictions of the previous year.
Staff costs continued to rise in accordance with the National Minimum Wage regulations, as have the insurance costs.
However, despite the above, the Company generated an increase in Total Income as well as a substantial increase in the year end value of the Share Portfolio. This was also in thanks to a television drama filmed at the hall which was shown on the BBC.
The Company did show a profit for the year and with the agreement of the Shareholders, the annual rental to Lodges and Other Orders remained unchanged.

Dividend
The payment of a dividend has been considered by the Board, and after agreement with the shareholders, it was agreed that a dividend would not be paid.

Board and Corporate Governance
The members of the Board is as last year, and my thanks go to all the Board members for their continued support.
We continue to communicate through council meetings and at the AGM. The Directors are available to address any Lodge meeting on the matters of the operations of Tapton Hall. Our Front of House manager and Head Chef both, when possible, have informal meetings with the Masters of the Lodges and members in general. By this method of communication, we hope to continue to improve our relationship and satisfy, if possible, their wishes.
We have employed Lishmans LLP to act as our accountants going forward, as we believe that they are much better suited to our needs.

Future Developments
In October 2022, John Clague was appointed to form a committee to look into the future of Freemasonry at Tapton Hall. Unfortunately, the plans to develop the site cannot proceed, because 'Historic England' has, for various reasons, declared that they will not support any development of the site.
The Company continues to provide facilities for Freemasons and the public, and we will continue to market these facilities.

Finally
We have had a good year, and are fortunate to have a loyal staff whose work ethic is formidable. I thank them for their contributions.
