In the financial year ending 31 July 2024, Their Stories CIC delivered a range of impactful community-based activities focused on empowerment, cultural understanding, and wellbeing. Key projects and workshops included Cultural heritage programmes that fostered understanding between different ethnic and cultural groups in Blackburn, especially among South Asian, Eastern European, and minority communities. Health and wellbeing workshops, addressing topics such as mental health, self-care, resilience, and trauma healing particularly supporting individuals affected by human trafficking and other sensitive issues. Creative and educational sessions, including guided health talks, storytelling events, arts-based therapy, film screenings, and cultural exchange sessions. Support for community reintegration, through goal setting, legal rights education, advocacy, and building peer connections. These activities directly supported residents of Blackburn West, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and benefited individuals of all ages and backgrounds by creating safe, inclusive, and empowering community spaces.
Our stakeholders include Service users workshop participants Local community leaders and grassroots groups Partner organisations in health, education, and cultural heritage sectors Volunteers and peer support facilitators Stakeholders were consulted informally through post-event feedback, one-to-one discussions, and ongoing relationships with community partners. Feedback consistently highlighted the value of our trauma-informed approach, the cultural relevance of our projects, and the importance of creating safe spaces for dialogue and healing. In response to this feedback: We adjusted some of our workshop topics to focus more on mental health and emotional wellbeing. We expanded our outreach to include more language-specific and culturally tailored sessions. We also introduced follow-up support mechanisms for participants, including referrals and small peer-led support circles.
