Company activities and impact

NDB1 has made a substantial, measurable difference in the lives of diverse community members by providing inclusive, high-quality arts engagement (workshops, performances and professional development workshops) to empower underrepresented voices, support mental health and connection, and enable professional growth for artists. Our work exemplifies how theatre can be a tool for social inclusion, personal development, and community transformation: Overall: 7,136 people engaged, with 3203 reached through online activities. 293 events were delivered, including: 38% for school, college, and university students 27% for professional development 21% open to the general public 30% for people with protected characteristics (e.g. women/girls, disabled people, LGBTQ+) Performance: 100% of participants said the performance held their attention. 98% gained new insight or knowledge from performances. All school audiences were new, showing outreach to untapped groups. Participation: 90% retention rate in regular workshops. 75% of participants felt more confident. 76% felt more connected to others. 68% reported improved mental wellbeing. 61% gained increased access to arts and theatre. 97% want to return for more workshops. Professional Development: Supported 324 professionals this year (up 256 from last year). 90% said they could apply what they learned to their career or personal development. 69% took active steps in their careers (applied for funding/jobs, launched projects). Helped professionals secure £92,566.50 for their own work. Workforce: 100% rated the project/production 5 stars for contributing to NDB1’s mission. All respondents felt proud to be part of NDB1. Feedback highlights themes of empowerment, creative freedom, support, and emotional safety.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our partners over the past year have included The Snappy Trust, Camphill Village Trust, Converge, York Carers Centre, Explore, University of York, Our Time, Show Me That I Matter and Clifton Green Primary School all of whom we have run consultations with their staff and participants online and in-person to understand how our provision can work in a supportive and complimentary way to meet the needs of our community.
