BD Active CIC, based in Bradford, is a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to improving community health, fitness, and social wellbeing through sports, recreation education, and inclusive physical activity programs. Over the past financial year, our activities have made a measurable difference across a wide range of communities in the Bradford district. 1. Promoting Health and Physical Activity Delivered free and low-cost fitness sessions to underserved groups, including women, older adults, young people, and individuals from ethnic minority communities. weekly classes including multi-sport activities 2. Education Through Sport and Recreation Delivered sports-based educational workshops in schools and community centres, promoting teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyle habits among children and young people. Partnered with local schools and youth services to integrate physical literacy into extracurricular activities. Developed tailored coaching sessions to support personal development and mental wellbeing through sport. 3. Social Inclusion and Community Building Created safe, inclusive spaces where individuals from all backgrounds could engage in group activity, build confidence, and reduce social isolation. Supported integration of newly arrived migrant and refugee families into community life through welcoming, culturally sensitive sports activities. Facilitated community-led initiatives that encouraged peer support and volunteer-led coaching. 4. Economic Impact and Local Capacity Building Employed and trained local fitness instructors, community leaders, and youth workers to deliver services in a sustainable and culturally relevant way. Offered volunteering and skills development opportunities to local residents, building employability and creating a pathway into health and sports careers. All profits were reinvested into expanding access to community-based physical activity and supporting those facing financial or health barriers.
BD Active CIC recognises the importance of engaging with stakeholders to ensure our services remain inclusive, relevant, and impactful. During the financial year, we actively consulted with a broad range of stakeholders whose input helped shape our programs and strategy. Who Our Stakeholders Are Our key stakeholders include: Local residents and service users (e.g. participants in our fitness and wellbeing programs) Community groups and local charities Bradford Council and public health teams Schools, youth organisations, and education providers Local fitness instructors, coaches, and volunteers NHS and health and wellbeing networks Funding bodies and grant providers How Stakeholders Have Been Consulted We used multiple methods to gather feedback and input, including: Community surveys at events and sessions to understand the needs and preferences of participants Feedback forms after fitness classes and workshops Focus groups with target groups such as women, older adults, and young people to discuss barriers to participation Regular meetings and communication with local authority representatives and partner organisations Ongoing conversations with staff, volunteers, and coaches for internal feedback and continuous improvement Actions Taken in Response to Feedback Increased provision of women-only sessions in response to cultural and privacy concerns raised by participants Introduced family-friendly and after-school programs following feedback from working parents and schools Expanded delivery to new venues in underserved areas where access was identified as a barrier Adapted sessions to be more inclusive, such as lower-impact options for older adults or those with long-term health conditions Developed multilingual promotional materials to improve outreach in Bradford’s diverse communities This ongoing stakeholder engagement ensures that BD Active CIC remains accountable, responsive, and community-led in everything we do.
