COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

STEP-OUT OUTDOOR LEARNING, TRAINING AND THERAPY C.I.C.

Company Number: 07868880 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2025

Company activities and impact

Throughout the year we worked with multiple secondary schools addressing the needs of their pupils, some with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, and others with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues. These pupils each attended multiple sessions our woodlands. Feedback from the staff of all the schools was that the sessions assisted all the pupils with emotional regulation, conflict management and general wellbeing. We also supported multiple individuals throughout the year with 1:1 support. These individuals ranged in age from 5 years old to 20 with needs ranging from SEMH to non-verbal autism. Where these individuals were school aged, they had limited school provision and the 1:1 sessions with our leaders provided an alternate provision. We worked with a charity partner offering 8 one-off half day sessions for children with SEND and their families, initially to attend a holiday club in the woodland. This is something that many SEND children are unable to attend owing to holiday club provision not being able to support their additional needs. We have also started to work with this charity to provide weekly drop-in forest school sessions with SEND children who are on limited or no provision from state. Many of these families are homeschooling their children and struggle to find inclusive groups where the children and can learn and socialise. We provided a local primary school year R children with a one-off forest school experience. The children were able to light fires, use tools and roast marshmallows under the supervision of our leaders. We conducted forest family sessions, which provide opportunities for families to come out to our site, enjoy and discover nature and play with each other, while also cooking breakfast over the campfire. We conducted our sessions for pre-school aged children and their adults to benefit from nature, gross and fine motor skill development, socialisation, executive functioning and play.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are all individuals and organizations for whom we hold sessions. These include schools, specifically Head Teachers and SENDCOS within the schools, charities and families. The consultation with these stakeholders is conducted in the form of 1:1 communication via email or phone call, discussions at or after sessions to ensure the services we are providing meets the needs of the community and individuals.
