Company activities and impact

Community Impact and Activities Overview Over the past financial year, our organization has delivered a wide range of initiatives aimed at supporting families and individuals within the Down's syndrome community. These activities have fostered inclusion, strengthened mental health and well-being, and built meaningful connections across the region. Support for New Parents Distributed baby packs to families of newborns diagnosed with Down's syndrome. Packs include resources to promote positive mental health and provide clear signposting to both local and national support networks. Social Engagement and Community Building Organized regular social meetups, including picnics, a popular annual weekend away in Blackpool, and group visits to the zoo. These events encourage friendship, reduce isolation, and promote emotional well-being for families and individuals. Weekly Makaton Choir Hosted a weekly "Just for Fun" Makaton choir, offering a joyful space for participants to build friendships and enhance their mental health through music and shared expression. Inclusive Arts Opportunities Provided platforms for artists with Down's syndrome to lead creative workshops, celebrating their talents and fostering community engagement. Collaborative Partnerships Worked alongside multiple community groups to expand reach and share resources. Partnered with the Maternity Voices Partnership to support new parents, ensuring they are signposted to relevant services and empowered to participate in meetings, even when they may not feel confident speaking. Monthly Support Groups Facilitated monthly joint support sessions for mothers of children with disabilities, offering a safe and supportive environment to share experiences and access guidance. These are ran in partnership with the Happy Mums Foundation, a maternal mental health CIC. Communication and Advocacy Shared uplifting stories from our community, alongside updates from other organizations offering training, support, and relevant news. These communications highlight the positive impact of our work and keep families informed and connected.

Consultation with stakeholders

We actively engage with our stakeholders. This includes families, people who have Down's syndrome, partner organisations, and healthcare professionals. We hope to ensure our services remain responsive and relevant. Through regular social events, support groups, and collaborative partnerships, we gather informal feedback and insights that shape our programming. Our involvement with the Maternity Voices Partnership allows us to hear directly from new parents and advocate for their needs, especially when they may not feel confident speaking for themselves. Monthly support sessions for mothers of children with disabilities also serve as a valuable forum for understanding evolving challenges and identifying gaps in provision. By maintaining open lines of communication and fostering trust within the community, we continuously adapt our services to better support mental health, inclusion, and overall well-being. Our young people with Down's syndrome or disabilities shape many of the social activities, supporting co-production and mutual learning each step of the way.
