True You Today stands as a beacon of hope and support for those who have endured the ordeal of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of gendered abuse. In a world where such Survivors often find themselves isolated and struggling to rebuild their sense of self, we offer a lifeline through our innovative and inclusive programs. At the heart of our mission lies a dedication to empowering Survivors to reclaim their bodies, their confidence, and their sense of belonging within a supportive community. We recognise healing is not a linear journey, nor is it one that can be undertaken alone. That's why we provide a diverse range of workshops, carefully designed to cater to the unique needs of each individual we work with. Through our carefully curated workshops, we offer Survivors a range of tools and techniques to support their physical and emotional well-being. From dance to yoga, aerial arts to mindfulness, our workshops offer a holistic approach to healing that addresses physical and emotional scars. Through our transformative workshops, Survivors not only connect to their their strength, resilience sense of wellbeing, but also forge deep connections with others who understand and empathise with their struggles. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to accessibility and inclusivity. We actively reach out to marginalised communities, ensuring our doors are open to all marginalised genders who seek support. By partnering with support services, we extend our reach to local organisations already embedded in our local community. By providing specialised workshops for frontline workers and volunteers, we equip those on the frontlines of support with the tools and resources they need to better serve their communities, we ensure our impact goes beyond just those directly affected by gendered violence. In a world where self-care often takes a backseat to the daily struggles of life, our workshops offer a sanctuary for wellbeing, free of charge at a time which suits both participants and tutors to centre accessibility and childcare needs. We understand that wellbeing is not a luxury it is a fundamental human right. Through our work, we strive to build not only stronger, healthier individuals but also stronger, more resilient communities. By fostering connections, nurturing self-esteem, and instilling hope, we are creating local spaces where Survivors can not only survive but thrive. "It's an absolute lifeline" L.
We have devised a user-led purpose-driven programme addresses this need by connecting physical and emotional well-being with local people. We run each funding pot as a standalone project to empower local Survivors to cultivate internal security when boundaries have been breached. Using movement to rebuild their relationship with their body and feel their strength to express themselves creatively provides a new path to physical freedom with artists in their community. We have run successful projects in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington and pan London. By connecting with local domestic abuse, sexual violence services and homeless shelters and people already embedded within communities we are able to ensure our work reaches people who need it. We currently work alongside Survivors’ support services Rape Crisis, Sistah Space and St Mungos, all of whom have referred clients to our program. Our last lot of workshops booked out in 48 hours. We have hosted training sessions in dealing with disclosures, intersectionality, anti-racism and inclusivity by a range of trainers including leaders from Black Lives Matter and Rape Crisis, Nia and Contra, to make sure our responses and services meet the complex intersections of needs of the people we are serving. We have an exemplary track record of success. In 2022 we hosted 793 sessions for 298 participants; 67% of participants self-identified as Disabled and or neurodiverse, only 20% of participants identified as heterosexual, the rest identified in many different phrasings and identities of the LGBTQI+ rainbow. 66% of participants and 77% of tutors were women of colour. Feedback from participant has included: “Thank you so much, you've saved my body and mind.” - D “Excellent. Absolutely fantastic. For someone who has been suffering from PTSD this has been such a ray of sunlight" – Z "Can I just say a massive thank you for this. It's been so helpful and really has given me a bit of a new lease of life. These workshops are incredible." – S "I took some very small steps towards doing something amazing and felt a great sense of achievement." – S “Movement has always been my salvation from mild depression to low self-esteem, feelings of dread and anger issues. It always will be. Thank you" - K “I loved my session, it was exactly what i needed and supported me and my anxiety.” - N “I felt so safe.” – M "I have tears on acknowledging that I am deserving of my space. Thank you again for your kind words and showing me my own magic ." - S "These sessions were really a game changer for me after a really tough time. The teacher is warm, supportive and motivating and just having someone to talk to made me feel less alone. The activities made me feel less helpless and more confident in my abilities and it was so nice to have such a treat that I wouldn't be able to afford. Thank you so so much." – R
