Across the Summer MTP organised Rural Facets a project exploring ruralities and artist practices in collaboration with Visual Arts Southwest. Rural Facets was a trio of gatherings for artists to network, share practice and amplify our own narratives of the rural. In autumn 2024 we organised The Long View: Art, a sense of place, belonging and reciprocity in relation to landscape - a conference exploring themes of place, people and natural landscapes in relation to access to land, National Parks, Public Art Collections and collective acts of ecological care. It seeks to re-examine and radically reposition the role that art can play in this time of climate and nature crisis, moving beyond human-centred meaning and extractive narratives of nature in art and wider cultures of landscapes. Convened by Dr Melanie Rose and Laura Eldret, in partnerships and support from New Forest National Parks and the British Academy. We had scholars travel from across Europe to take part and 90 participants join us across 2 days. A publication is still to be created. In the past year we have also been busy continuing to a regular offer of professional development for artists in the form of PaC gatherings. Looking forward we are exploring expanding the area/ region in which we operate and to identify what we can offer that addresses the gaps in cultural offering in rural, green and open spaces.
We have continued to maintain a network of local and national art and cultural communities with whom we will consult with when planning a future programme and opportunities for. We have worked with the New Forest National Park as a regional key stake holder and British Academy leader in the arts sector. Artists are woven into our programme as collaborators and with active consultation and reflection built into our process. In this year we are exploring offers for more general publics.
All the directors work carried out as a director in this period was done voluntarily, apart from work on Rural Facets project which a £500.47 was paid.
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
