OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
To give support to anyone affected by cancer (patients or carer) through the provision of short, residential breaks which include counselling, support and advice and which are free of charge to all-comers. Under exceptional circumstances, support may be provided on a one-to-one basis and/or online.
Activity report for 2023
As we look back on 2024, it’s clear that it’s been another strong and successful year for our organisation. We continue to grow in both strength and impact, and we’re well-positioned for even greater things ahead.
Throughout the year, we delivered three well-received breaks — all hosted at the beautiful Cadhay House. Our first took place in March, followed by a summer retreat in June, and we returned once more in September to close the year. Each of these events reflected the heart of our mission: fostering community, care, and connection.
Looking forward, we are exploring additional venues to broaden our reach and create more opportunities for those we support. This work is ongoing, with all trustees actively involved in identifying new and suitable locations.
Our trustee team has also strengthened its operations, establishing a regular bimonthly meeting schedule via Zoom. We are currently seeking new trustees with expertise in marketing and social media to further enhance our work. Meanwhile, our growing team of volunteers continues to be a vital and valued part of our progress.
Our fundraising efforts in 2024 were exceptional. We began with coffee mornings and a local quiz night in Chudleigh, then expanded into Honiton for another successful quiz event. Over the course of the year, we held more than ten fundraising activities, including a clothes swap, pig racing, and, to cap it all off, our Festive Fundraiser in November. This memorable event was made even more special by the presence of our new Patron, who kindly drew the raffle prizes and helped make the evening a real celebration.
Behind the scenes, there has been just as much momentum. A heartfelt thank-you goes to Kate McCormick for her tireless dedication and invaluable contributions throughout the year.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited about the Ugbrooke Park Fundraiser, planned for April. This event has been in development for several months and promises to be one of our biggest and most exciting in recent years.
We’ll be starting the year with a strategy meeting to set our direction and priorities for the months ahead. Here’s to building on the strong foundation of 2024 and continuing to make a meaningful difference in 2025.
