COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

FIRST THURSDAY PAINSWICK CIC

Company Number: 15071358 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 August 2024

Company activities and impact

First Thursday Painswick aims to build community through a love of literature and writing. In our first year August 2023-August 2024 we hosted six literary events in the village of Painswick where we are based. These events comprise in conversation evenings with authors/writers who are local to the area or writing on topics of local relevance. Established and fledgling writers have benefited through the opportunity to share and discuss their work with a wider audience. Events were attended by between 40-60 people on each occasion. Interested members of the community have been able to develop their love of literature and build connection through attending our monthly events. The events have encouraged the literary tradition of the area, brought together writers and people who love literature to discuss, learn and share ideas. They promote the work of local writers and develop community links. Members of the community have come together, developed connections and friendships with the additional benefit of strengthening community cohesion and combating loneliness.

Consultation with stakeholders

Stakeholders include members of the community who regularly attend First Thursday Painswick events. Although no formal stakeholder consultation was held during the first year, informal feedback is extremely positive with stakeholders reporting how much they have benefited from the events, both in terms of interest in the authors work and the knowledge they have garnered from attending and how they have enjoyed the events and developed their community connections and friendships. This informal feedback is borne out in people’s regular attendance and engagement. Further stakeholders include the authors that we have worked with. They too have reported significant benefit in being able to discuss their work and make a direct connection with their readership.
