Company activities and impact

Alternative Approach in the Community CIC exists to improve the health, wellbeing, and personal development of children and young people within our community, including those in care, those in low-income families and others through inclusive, community-based activities. Between March 2024 and March 2025, we have delivered structured opportunities for young people to engage in sports, creative activities, and wellbeing support. Notably, our Summer Health and Wellbeing Camp welcomed young people from more than 20 local schools, with attendance ranging between 18 and 33 participants each day. Supported by the Department for Education’s HAF programme in partnership with Edsential, we provided healthy meals, nutritional education, and engaging activities such as football, gymnastics, dance, quizzes, and creative play while partnering with local delivery partners so that young people could engage safely in an enjoyable way with their peers and many tried new activities. The impact of our work has been clear: young people developed confidence, improved social skills, and enjoyed inclusive opportunities, with support provided for those with SEND or who needed extra encouragement. Feedback from parents highlighted the growth in their children’s self-esteem, social understanding, and overall wellbeing. One participant who was initially shy became a peer role model and a “Rising Star,” at our recognition and awards ceremony while another young person secured a trial and placement with Vauxhall Football Club following recognition of her talent at the camp! Through our activities, we have fostered positive community relationships, offered meaningful opportunities for children to thrive, and demonstrated tangible outcomes that benefit both individuals and the wider community, teaching young ones to reach for their full potential. It has also been a period of growth in which we have been mapping out community involvement for the time ahead, fundraising and planning to provide distribute food hampers to vulnerable families over the school holidays, which has made a tangible difference to families across Liverpool.
