Company activities and impact

During 2024, the CIC continued its work to support the development and growth of roller derby in the UK and Ireland. This included negotiating favourable insurance rates on a block basis and reaching out to the roller sports NGB, again, without success. We have also taken part in the development of services for national teams across the Junior, MRDA and WFTDA-aligned world cup squads. We completed our 10th competitive season in 2024 with 75 teams across Junior, MRDA and WFTDA aligned roller derby and ran our promotional playoffs event as a two track event for the first time since 2019. This enabled teams to play 148 competitive games and supported the development of teams at all levels. We also negotiated dual sanctioning with the global governing bodies We maintained the size of our competition for 2025, with 157 games planned.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the members (skaters, officials, announcers, photographers and other volunteers) of the roller derby community in the UK and Ireland. We undertook our annual stakeholder consultation survey in Summer 2024. This sought to understand what the community wanted of competition in 2025, which enabled us to build on 2024 activity to deliver a season based on locally competitive and national play for teams of various levels, with ongoing improvement in skills match. This has driven growth into 2025. A key topic of consultations was on matters relating to officiating and venues. As a result we have developed and committed to investing our surpluses into the development of officiating in the UK and Ireland.
