COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ROOT CAUSE PROJECT COMMUNITY INTEREST COMPANY

Company Number: 14464872 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2024

Company activities and impact

Root Cause Project CIC has completed another year supporting over 100 veterans with mental health and well-being support through nature-based sessions. We have delivered over 20 outdoor sessions, helping participants navigate stress, trauma and mental health challenges; providing the tools needed to navigate day-to-day life. These sessions have combined bushcraft, survival skills, and therapeutic strategies to help support Veterans in the North Devon area. We have started to move out into the wider community by delivering cooking demonstrations at local events, as this has helped us to raise awareness, while also helping our attendees to feel connected to the wider community. The impact of the Root Cause Project’s work is perhaps best illustrated by the veterans themselves. A participant from the Royal Yorkshire Regiment shared his personal journey: “Thank you for today, and for making me feel welcome. I’ve struggled with mental health problems since leaving the army, when I was medically discharged. Transitioning back to civilian life left me in a dark place, only knowing the army way of life. Today, I felt like I was part of a family again. I truly appreciate what you’re doing for veterans and serving personnel.”

Consultation with stakeholders

National Lottery Community Fund – They provided the funding to purchase a van, which transports participants to and from sessions. It is a much needed service that helps tackle isolation and transport within the community. Cooperative – Supported us through their community Support Service, helping us with funds as well as food donations for a year. Barnstaple Town Council – Supported our digital marketing campaign. NHS and National Centre for Creative Health – Helping to ensure a comprehensive approach to mental health support within the wider community. Beachwood Clothing – Provided outdoor clothing for participants. RMB Chivenor – Maintaining ties with the Royal Marines family and the community.
