The company runs a community bike repair workshop with the aim of improving access to bicycle maintenance facilities in an area otherwise lacking them. We started the workshop in 2016 having been approached by our local council who were looking for someone to run a new project. We offer low cost or free repairs to local residents of all ages. In the year 2023 / 2024 we have benefited the community in the following ways: - We repaired 363 bikes over 49 sessions of running the workshop. The majority of these were bikes brought in by members of the community for us to repair, anything from puncture repair to brakes and gear work etc. The others were bikes that were donated to us which we repaired and sold to raise funds towards the sunning costs of the workshop. - We refurbished and sold 14 bikes and stripped a further 6 for useful parts are recycled the remains. - Where possible we show customers how to carry out the repairs we do though it isn’t always possible for them to stay while we do the work. - If people know how to carry out the repairs but don’t have the tools they are welcome to use ours. - Our customers cover a wide range of local residents from young children to pensioners, plus students and working families. - We provide rechargeable USB lights available for free, particularly to the young people who use the workshop, over the winter months.
Our stakeholders are the residents local to the workshop in East Brighton. We serve a diverse population with respect to ages and social and cultural backgrounds. Our directors and volunteers live close to the workshop and have done for many years. We are in constant conversation with the customers, getting regular feedback on the services we provide. As in previous years people have asked us to run the workshop either on additional days or for longer hours. Unfortunately this isn’t currently feasible due to time constraints on the individuals involved. We are frequently told that the services we provide allow people to use their bikes, with all of the positive outcomes associated with cycling.
The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £5,366.98. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
