Chairman's Report and Financial Review
for the Year Ended 31 December 2024
The year started very well with a Spring meeting on 7th to 9th March 2024 held in Lincolnshire visiting David O’Connors collection and using the famous bomber command base, The Petwood Hotel.
This meeting was very well attended with MBSGB members but also from the Mechanical Organ Owners Society known as M.O.O.S. Held over two days, there was ample time to see this very impressive collection of organs, music boxes etc and vintage cars.
The annual AGM was held on 1st June 2024 in the village Hall at Roade, Northamptonshire. 32 people attended and the business side of the meeting ran to plan. An invited speaker gave a talk about his time as an auctioneer at Christies. This was followed by the annual auction which was not, on this occasion, that well supported.
During the year some provincial meetings took place including an auction sale in Eastbourne on the 17th & 18th October organized by Laurence Fisher which again was popular with collectors, some travelling from Europe.
Overall, despite an ongoing concern about a declining membership and how to address it, the Society is in funds and looks forward to the plans for the next year despite still having some vacancies for posts.

Financial Review
The detailed accounts can be found on page 7 of this report. It shows declining income mostly due to a decrease in membership, down to 240 in 2024. The expenditure has been challenging with the main expense being the publishing of the quarterly journal. However even with a deficit of £4,688 for the year there was £18,373 in the bank at the year end. The directors are giving due thought to the situation to turn the society finances around.
Moving forward into 2025 the decision has been taken to reduce the journal to three issues for the current year and to increase the advertising revenue, as well as looking at reducing the publishing costs.
The Society is still a going concern and with a greater focus on the financial challenges we look forward to a bright future.
