Phones For Africa CIC was incorporated on 29 December 2023 and began trading on 8 September 2024. During the financial year to 28 June 2025 it pursued its core mission of promoting digital inclusion and environmental responsibility through the collection, recycling, and redistribution of used mobile phones and tablets. As a result of its activities, the company recycled and/or repurposed a total of 49 mobile phones and tablets, thereby preventing these devices from entering landfill and contributing to e-waste reduction in the UK. These efforts align with our commitment to environmental sustainability. In parallel, the repurposed devices have had a direct social impact. As a result of donations from UK individuals and businesses, 25 rural savings group members in Mutomo, Kenya, were equipped with a recycled smartphone and tablet, enabling them to access mainstream finance, and improve their ability to record, manage, and monitor group savings and loans digitally.
Our stakeholders include: - UK-based individuals and businesses who donate used devices - African-based NGOs who distribute used devices to rural savings groups - African rural savings group members, who benefit directly from redistributed devices Engagement with these groups has helped shape the evolution of our services. Stakeholder input has led to the development of a partnership facility, allowing donor organisations to receive public recognition through their social media channels. This has proven to be an effective way to encourage new partnerships whilst also providing visibility to businesses supporting environmental and social causes. Additionally, we launched a mobile phone recycling box scheme. These boxes are provided to workplaces, and made available in shared spaces to collect unwanted devices from staff.
