PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. The Higher Education sector has been intensely challenged during this financial year, where many universities now face severe debt and liquidity problems. As a consequence, It is possible that institution closures and mergers are on the cards for some. It has meant many staff redundancies, and where those remaining in the workplace are under severe capacity and time constraints. Where the need for the freely available resources offered through LifeRoute, and its specific initiative Caring on Campus has never been greater, at the same time educators have little or no time to give to make new connections, to work with us to introduce ways to help address mental wellbeing, or even to give time for their own self care. As a consequence, activities have been limited in their reach and scope. Nevertheless, new inroads have been made in the following areas. Publications The book chapter submitted for the book entitled Innovations in Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Higher Education: Contemporary Global Perspectives and by the ITLSIG (International Teaching and Learning Special Interest Group) was accepted. Time was given to further editing with final submission to the publisher in November 2024. The Caring on Campus collaboration were invited in November to offer an article for the Spring 2025 edition of Research Intelligence, a quarterly publication by BERA (British Education Research Association). The theme for the edition is personal tutoring in higher education. Groups The Company Director joined a newly formed international research group (approx. 10 members) that focuses on EDI (Eguality, Diversity, Inclusion) in universities, and has also take on minute-taking duties at its meetings. Her presence at these meetings is to help keep at the forefront how mental wellbeing directly inter-relates to EDI, including the importance of holding intentionality to our human values. Another Caring on Campus stakeholder also attends. The Group submitted a proposal to make a presentation at the Advance HE May 2025 conference Embedding intersectionality in HE practice. The submission was not successful, but has served to help the Group establish what its first research theme will be. The Company Director has started to attend several online network groups that share ideas, resources, and discussions connected to Teaching and Learning developments within HE. It is an opportunity to broaden understanding of current thinking and needs, as well as an opportunity to become known and to make connections within the HE teaching community. Social Media & Websites The LifeRoute website had over 100,000 visits in the last 12 months. The Caring On Campus website (more recently established and linked to the LifeRoute main website) had just under 50,000 visits over the same period. The Company Director continues to make connections via LinkedIn. This is the key means of making connections, as we are unable to send anything directly to a university email address without it first being enabled by the recipient. However, little goes beyond social media messaging or a short meeting, due to the time issues of teaching and support staff, as previously explained. The Company Director has learned to create short videos for future use, to help raise interest and for staff/students to take up the offer of attending mini retreats at Cruden Bay as part of their mental wellbeing strategy. These are for private viewing on YouTube. Mentoring Online one-on-one mentoring of women in the millennial age group continues and all state how it has helped them enormously in their personal and career development.
There are currently two active stakeholders, both senior university lecturers. Our meetings have had to become less frequent due to the increased pressures on teaching staff, and have served to share experiences and understanding. We co-authored / edited the BERA article. Stakeholders support LifeRoute/Caring on Campus LinkedIn posts by adding comment and therefore algorithm.
