Company activities and impact

Trail Blazers Education is an outdoor learning programme designed to engage some of the most hard-to-reach young people. We are committed to improving the mental health, well-being, and life outcomes of young people across South East England. Through our specialist Therapeutic Forest School and Fishing provision, we provide tailored support for learners who struggle to access traditional education settings. Our work has transformed outcomes for young people who are vulnerable, at risk, or experiencing social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. We partner with schools and local authorities to ensure every young person can continue to access an ambitious curriculum while working towards successful re-engagement with education. To date, we have collaborated with 29 schools across Kent, two virtual schools (Kent and East Sussex), and home-educated young people. This includes pupils in primary schools, mainstream secondary schools, and specialist settings supporting autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our next goal is to extend our reach across Kent, focusing on areas of highest child poverty (Thanet, Dover, Swale, and Ashford). Here, we aim to identify and support vulnerable young people aged 11–16 who are most at risk of disengagement, giving them access to our therapeutic outdoor programmes.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our key stakeholders are residents of Kent. The company’s directors, who have lived in Kent their entire lives, bring over 15 years of experience working across both mainstream and special education. With this background, they are deeply committed to supporting young people who struggle to access learning in a traditional classroom, and to creating opportunities that inspire aspiration and brighter futures. We actively seek feedback from schools once a young person completes a programme with us. This feedback helps us build a clear picture of schools’ needs and identify gaps in current engagement provisions. By doing so, we continuously refine our approach and strengthen the support we offer to schools and local authorities.
