Divergent Families CIC delivered the ‘Creative Connections' project during the financial year 2024-2025. The project provided arts-based workshops for single-parent families and individuals with experience of neurodiversity and learning disabilities, as well as those with relatable lived experiences, enabling them to participate fully in inclusive creative activities. Through interactive drama and creative sessions, families engaged in activities designed to encourage self-expression, community connection, and the sharing of personal stories. Sessions alternated between all-family and split adult/child formats to ensure accessibility and inclusivity, and communal meals fostered social cohesion. The project’s impact includes: Strengthening community bonds by connecting families, sharing experiences, and forming new friendships. Enabling participants to express themselves creatively and take an active role in shaping activities. Promoting inclusion and accessibility through the Divergent Families Toolkit, which provides guidance for arts-based activities for diverse families. Gathering feedback that informed future programme development, including suggestions for outdoor activities and cultural events. Overall, the Creative Connections project has contributed to the well-being, social cohesion, and creative engagement of families within the community, demonstrating tangible benefits in line with Divergent Families CIC’s social mission.
Divergent Families CIC’s stakeholders are single-parent families and individuals with experience of neurodiversity or learning disabilities, as well as those with relatable lived experiences. During the Creative Connections workshops, the company held creative feedback sessions to consult these stakeholders. Participants were invited to share their experiences, ideas, and preferences through discussions, interactive activities, and visual reflection exercises. At this stage, the feedback collected is being used to inform future activities and fundraising efforts. No specific changes or new initiatives have yet been implemented, but the consultation has provided valuable insights into stakeholder needs and priorities, which will guide future planning.
