Unfortunately, the Director taking a lead on the Starseed Parenting project had family challenges since 2021 when her youngest son was diagnosed with leukaemia. As a result capacity for work has still been reduced. Charlie has taken this time to explore a different way of working, training up other parents to become coaches rather than continuing to focus on 1-2-1 coaching herself. This could become a benefit to the organisation in the longer term. Starseed Parenting Director Charlie Mitchell designed and developed an accredited coach training course for parents with children who experience the world differently, including those with disabilities, diagnosis, sensory and behavioural differences, through the Association for Coaching. She developed an entry level Award and Certificate, and decided to trial the certificate with a cohort of 12 parents, to explore the support they would require to undertake the certificate. Charlie accessed funding through Access to Work, to support her with organisation and administration during this time. During 2024, 12 parents accessed the online coach training resources via the Simplero website. There were twice weekly face to face support sessions, action learning sets, supervision and a couple of online platforms where learners could share progress. The course continued into 2025, taking 15 months in total to complete. The course was organised on a ‘pay what you can afford basis’ in order to make it accessible and would have cost £6,000 per person if they had paid the full cost. (12 parents x £6,000 = £72,000 total for 15 months. Between February and November 2024: £60,000) Charlie has worked with 5 people on a one to one basis. (5 people x 12 sessions x £80 = £4,800) Total contribution towards community learning: £64,800 Stroud Imagines Stroud Imagines was paused due to other organisers experiencing family challenges. Conclusion 100% of our activity this year has directly contributed to supporting community based learning in line with our declared purpose. Overall contribution to the community learning in 2023/2024: £64,800 Total contribution to community learning since 2010: £321,786
We have explored the needs of two separate communities around Stroud using Facebook: -Stroud’s Neurodiverse Universe (500 people) -Starseed Parenting (250 people) The information provided by people in these communities have informed the development of Starseed Parenting.
