Company activities and impact

The 2023/24 financial year marked the first year of operation for Carving Future CIC. During this period, the company concentrated its efforts on applying for the Ministry of Justice’s “Prison Academies” tender, which aimed to deliver training within prisons. While our application was successful, the project was ultimately withdrawn by the Ministry before implementation. Following this, we took proactive steps to continue pursuing our mission by engaging directly with a local prison to develop and roll out carpentry and craftsman training opportunities. These activities represent the foundation of our long-term commitment to providing practical skills and pathways to meaningful employment for ex-offenders upon release. Although our first year presented challenges, it has strengthened our resolve to deliver on our constitution and vision. By establishing relationships with prison partners and building the groundwork for training delivery, Carving Future CIC is already laying the foundations for positive social impact and future community benefit.

Consultation with stakeholders

Carving Future CIC recognises a wide range of stakeholders essential to achieving its mission. These include: - Prisoners, as the primary beneficiaries of our training programmes. - Prisons, such as HMP Maidstone, which provide the environment for delivery. - Prison probation officers, including those at Sheppey Prisons. - Prison Education and Skills departments, such as representatives including Richard Hammond. - Training providers, including ART Skill Centre. - Local raw material suppliers, such as Romney Wool, who support the delivery of our carpentry and craftsman training. Although we have not yet held a joint stakeholder meeting with all parties present, we have undertaken individual consultations with each stakeholder group. These discussions have been crucial during this planning phase, allowing us to listen carefully to stakeholder needs, objectives, and expected outcomes. As a result, our approach remains flexible and responsive, ensuring that the eventual design and delivery of our training programmes reflects the priorities and insights of those most closely involved. Stakeholder input will continue to guide the project as it develops into its implementation stage.
