COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SUPPORTING SISTERS CIC

Company Number: 13812850 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Throughout the year the funding we received has been instrumental in enabling us to secure our premises for an additional 12 months. This support has been vital in allowing us to continue providing essential services to the Moorside community, including the training and development of a volunteer who is on track to become an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA). Having access to office facilities has proven to be crucial in facilitating the delivery of a wide range of impactful projects throughout the year. These projects have directly benefited individuals and families in the community, offering them vital support and resources, providing vital support to women affected by domestic abuse, as well as offering continued assistance to help them recover from trauma. This funding has allowed us to offer a variety of services designed to promote healing, empower survivors, and raise awareness of domestic violence and related issues. Community activities like coffee mornings, sewing circles, and beauty therapy sessions have had a profound impact on women in many communities, fostering connection, empowerment, and growth. Some ways these activities have made a difference: Coffee mornings provide a welcoming space for women to gather, share stories, and support one another. This sense of belonging helps combat feelings of loneliness and isolation, creating a stronger, more connected community. Sewing circles allow women to express their creativity while honing valuable skills. For some, these sessions serve as a stepping stone to pursue crafting as a hobby or even a business, giving them a sense of achievement and financial independence. Beauty therapy sessions offer more than just relaxation they give women a chance to focus on self-care. Feeling good about oneself can have a ripple effect on confidence and mental health, encouraging women to approach daily challenges with renewed energy. These activities often create a safe environment where women can openly discuss personal challenges and celebrate victories, fostering a culture of mutual encouragement and understanding. Skills learned in sewing or beauty therapy might lead to career opportunities or entrepreneurial ventures, empowering women to achieve financial independence and contribute to their local economy. These gatherings often bought women from different backgrounds together, promoting understanding and cultural exchange that enriches the entire community. Additionally, we hosted Hate Crime awareness and ambassador training, and we became an official Hate Crime Reporting Centre. Our drop-in days provided a welcoming environment where individuals could seek support for any other concerns, creating an open and safe environment for those in need. Furthermore, the funding enabled us to invest in the professional development of our team. One of our dedicated volunteers was enrolled in an IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisor) course. This training has been instrumental in enhancing our ability to support victims of domestic abuse, allowing our organisation to expand its capacity to offer specialised and informed guidance to those in need.
