  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    All fixed assets are initially recorded at cost. Property, plant and equipment is used in the company's principal activity for the production and supply of goods or for administrative purposes and is stated in the balance sheet under the historic cost model. This model requires the assets to be stated at cost less amounts in respect of depreciation and less any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost of an asset, less its estimated residual value (which is the expected amount that would currently be obtained from disposal of an asset, after deducting the estimated costs of disposal, if the asset were already of the age and in the condition expected at the end of its useful life), over the useful economic life of the respective asset as follows:

Company activities and impact

The company’s activities will provide benefits to adults and teenagers who are predominantly in the local geographic area and choose to come along to the activities. We provide a place to make, mend and grow things together in rural Somerset on Spring Farm in Ash. The Maker's Place provides an environment for people to enjoy therapeutic activities designed to improve their social and emotional wellbeing. Gardening group Getting active and sociable outdoors,great for your physical and mental health! People who come along take home food and flowers they have grown to enjoy. Sewing and craft group Being creative can have major health benefits, socially, mentally and physically. New skills can be learnt and projects made can be taken home to enjoy. Men’s wood work group Spending time with other men can be very supportive, there is opportunity to learn new skills and make things, there are many social, mental and physical benefits. Alternative Provision for teenagers and young adults An opportunity for young people and adults who struggle with mainstream education to learn new skills, grow in confidence and participate in meaningful and worthwhile activities that promote wellbeing, resilience and self-esteem.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our services and events are run in consultation with local services, users and community groups. With adaptations being made based on the user needs.

Directors' remuneration

The directors are paid in line with other tutors performing the same roles. In the year ending 30th November 2024, The Makers Place paid directors' remuneration of £5,862.50 to Sarah Horder and £2,975 to Sarah Dunning.
