The company runs a website with the purpose of sharing knowledge among communities focused around particular topic areas. Between December 2023 and November 2024, the involved communities have benefitted in the following ways: - Added an accessibility statement describing the accessibility guidelines and standards the software and website follow and how any accessibility issues are dealt with, making access as straightforward as possible for any user with accessibility issues. In addition, minor clarifications of the terms of service were made in response to users’ questions. - In light of the proliferation of generative AI that requires vast quantities of human-made content for training, which is often taken and used without adequate attribution, we proactively made commitments about how we will openly discuss any potential changes to how user-contributed content should be hosted and used. This aligns with users’ desires regarding how their content is used, particularly regarding issues such as attribution and copyright. - General software improvements for more functionality and ease of use, such as improving the community/user experience and fulfilling community requests. While we operated at a loss this year, our operating costs are low relative to our total assets, so we feel there is no cause for concern
We have an email address for general questions. In addition, we have identified four main groups of stakeholders, which may have some overlap with each other: - Developers: Communication is done via Github, a Discord server and an additional ‘community’ site. This doesn’t change the aims of the functionality of the website, although has helped define how development is and will be done and has been used to update the roadmap for the future development of the site. - Moderators and users: Communication is done via chat, a ‘meta site’ and a ‘proposals site’. This has led to over 100 major and minor changes, ranging from bug fixes, implementing wanted features (e.g. filtering, searching and sorting), as well as improvements to user profile pages (including loading speed and visibility of posts made across the network by a user). The proposals site streamlines the process for forming new communities based on current and potential users’ needs and wants. - Based on concerns raised on our ‘meta site’ and following the creation of a network-wide policy about use of generative AI (such as ChatGPT), we implemented software features such as the ability to flag AI-generated content as such and improvements to the site to help prevent bot-scraping. - External communities with a private instance: Communication is done via a Discord server and the same ‘meta’ and ‘community’ sites as the user.
