Company activities and impact

The BookBlast Translation Book Club meets monthly at Hatchards, Picadilly, to discuss recent fiction in translation. Surprise guests- translators, publishers, editors or authors - sometimes join. In today's fractured world, reading global literature in English fosters entertainment, insight, and intercultural understanding thanks to leading international writers and their translators. Translating from the French POLLYANNA The Game of Joy by Ewa Janina makes a new take on Pollyanna available to the vast Anglophone reading community (and beyond), reframing Porter's classic through European sensibilities, and interrogating optimism in a contemporary context. Translating it into English enriches comparative literature, pedagogy, and cultural studies, while bridging wellness, resilience and philosophy. Translation here isn't service but authorship - expanding global discourse and underscoring translators as cultural mediators. Webzine BookBlast Diary and the BookBlast Podcast champion world literature, translations and independent presses often drowned out by big marketing and prize culture. By broadening horizons and supporting overlooked voices, the reviews and interviews deepen cultural understanding and challenge the status quo, ensuring readers access the richness and surprise of global writing beyond the Anglophone mainstream.
