COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

Company Number: 08327831 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. Work Conducted by Bright Sparks Theatre Arts Company in 2024 was as follows: We continued our programme of face to face delivery, our popular ‘Big Drama Club’ on a Wednesday daytime has been fully subscribed for the year. Over the period of the calendar year we successfully devised, rehearsed and performed two new pieces of theatre: ‘Emporium Curioso’ and ‘Paradise Club’ and were also asked to, performing these at Stage@Leeds Theatre, Leeds Playhouse Bramhall Rock Void. We were able to engage with over 400 audience members and streamed a live performance through our YouTube channel. We continued developing our website and media platforms to support our work and members of the learning disabled community, keeping people informed of our programme of workshops and performances. In consultation with our board and service users we ran a very successful summer fund raising event; providing a fun day for all our participants, family members and wider members of the learning disabled community. We started an out of hours engagement sessions ‘Nite Lites’ taking groups out in the community to engage in the arts. We started to deliver half day drama sessions out in the community offering people the chance to engage with our unique way of working, establishing a weekly session at The Bridge in Holbeck, Leeds and Morely Aspire base. We took part in LD week running engagement sessions at Leeds Playhouse and stalls during LD week. We were funded through Leeds Community Foundation and The Liz and Terry Bramhall Foundation. (If applicable, please just state “A social audit report covering these points is attached”).

Consultation with stakeholders

PART 2 – CONSULTATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS – Please indicate who the company’s stakeholders are; how the stakeholders have been consulted and what action, if any, has the company taken in response to feedback from its consultations? If there has been no consultation, this should be made clear. The Stakeholders are the: Aspire CBS Leeds, Leeds Playhouse and Leeds Playhouse Creative Engagement Team, StageatLeeds, Cardigan Road Community Centre, Leep 1 ( A learning disabilities self-advocacy group -partnered with Advonet), the families, carers and the wider community in Leeds involved with disabled people, as well as Inkwell Arts Leeds, promoting improved mental health through the arts, particularly with people living with dementia, ‘The Bridge’ learning disabilities service and Cafe in Holbeck – Leeds. Also involved are Leeds Institute of Medical Education and medical staff, who support using arts as an alternative creative way of engaging communication between groups. These organisations and groups have been consulted and involved in the projects initiated by the Company. The Company has taken full account of feedback from its stakeholders during the year.

Directors' remuneration

Bright Sparks C.I.C was founded by John Hudson and Marc Walton utilising their skills as professional theatrical practitioners and their background of working for charitable organisations in the learning disabled sector. We founded Bright Sparks as we had developed our practice with similar organisations but felt we had something different to offer the LD community in providing an artistic experience that is beneficial in personal holistic development. Within Bright Sparks Theatre Arts Company Community Interest Company, they are directors and people with significant control. We fulfil roles both as directors and as freelance facilitators receiving renumeration for both to deliver the projects and administrate the company ie/ in the delivery of face to face drama sessions we are free-lance facilitators, however in the administration of the company we engage as both directors and in a freelance capacity. For example, in speaking to our partner organisations and discussing our involvement in LD week we would be directors and persons of significant control in making to decision for the company and members of the LD community who use our service to safely engage in this event, we would also be free-lance paid administrators taking on duties such as advertising the event/updating media platforms/liaising with customers/ designing the work to be delivered/ facilitating face to face sessions. As an arts based organisation the work we deliver needs to be heavily subsidised through funding organistaions and our partners. The undetermined nature of operating on small funding pots for specific projects means we have to remain flexible as we may not get funding to proceed, plus being a small organisation means we have to take on a variety of roles to continue delivering work as a company and remaining as sustainable as possible. All rates of pay to freelance staff are agreed by the board of governors prior to payments being made. Total £28,012
