HeArts Creative Projects CIC is a non-profit organization dedicated to infusing creativity into the heart of society, primarily serving deprived areas of Sunderland, including Pennywell and Houghton le Spring. Our mission is to promote personal growth, community development, cul tural enrichment, social change, and improved health and wellbeing through creative expres sion and problem-solving. During the reporting period, we delivered a range of art and creative craft projects targeting vulnerable groups, including families, children, young people, older adults, and carers. Key activities included: Holiday Hunger Programme: reaching over 50 families in Pennywell and South Hylton. The programme combined arts, crafts, and creating herb gardens. Community Healing Projects: We offered expressive arts programmes for individuals and carers facing disenfranchisement, isolation, poverty, and social or economic challenges. These projects used paper, textiles, natural materials, and upcycled resources to promote sustainable creativity and build life and art skills. Impact: Our work has directly addressed local social challenges, with measurable outcomes such as a decrease in reported holiday hunger in targeted areas. Participants reported discovering new talents, building confidence, and forming meaningful social connections. Outcomes align with our goal of creating stronger, more inclusive communities and improving wellbeing through creative expression.
HeArts Creative Projects actively engages with stakeholders, including community members, local organizations, and participants, to ensure our services meet community needs. We conducted: Guided Consultations: Collaborated with Pennywell Community Centre and HOPS to identify community challenges and tailor programmes like the Holiday Hunger Programme. Participant Feedback: Gathered feedback through workshop evaluations and informal discussions. Participants expressed appreciation for the inclusive, welcoming environment and the practical skills gained, such as sustainable crafting. For instance, a participant noted that our programmes “changed how we spend time as a family,” indicating improved family dynamics. We are committed to ongoing community consultations and collaborations to improve and expand our services, ensuring they remain relevant and impactful.
