Mums4aChange was established in September 2017 and offers support for mothers and parent-carers, with a particular focus on parents whose children are neuro-diverse or have any kind of physical or emotional additional needs and who are in challenging circumstances. This support has been provided in a variety of ways including a combination of creative and coaching tools via: Group work 1-1 coaching Mums4aChange community events and establishing routes into other family support Substack on-line sessions This is our final report covering our seventh year and the following 6 months. Due to a bereavement and subsequent additional personal caring duties for the founding director, we substantially reduced all our activities and did not establish any new groups during this period. We have also decided that it is now time to close Mums4aChange CiC. Despite the challenges we did continue to run monthly Meet-Up groups for graduates of the Time4You programme. The Meet-Ups offered connection to a community of parent-carers and enable participants to continue to practice the tools they established over the Time4You course. We also a ran monthly Musings group for parent-carers who want to explore their creativity further and use their use of creativity as a self-development practice, sharing this with others. In addition, as our delivery was reduced and we have had feedback that on-line sessions offer much needed flexibility for parent-carers, we experimented with setting up a Substack called YourTme4aChange. We used this to offer our community on-going connection and created bi-monthly sessions, tailored to meet the challenges of our subscribers. The purpose being to offer: Thoughts + tools on a new theme each month that parent-carers have told us they struggle with Creative prompts to use to process the experience of being a parent-carer A place for parent-carers to share the creative work they have made as a response to the theme Mid-month our Nature Nurture specialist also published a post sharing mindfulness and nature-based thoughts and practices relevant to parents and carers The Substack was published for subscribers only to enable it to be a contained, safe space. Despite the significant reduction in our delivery this year we: Delivered 16 Monthly Meet- Up sessions Delivered 17 Monthly Musings on motherhood events Created YourTime4aChange Substack as a platform for our community to share their creations and also a place to publish on-line sessions our community could access anytime Posted 11 posts/Substack on-line sessions Reached 52 of our community via Substack and our Monthly meet-ups The benefits to our community include supporting parent-carers to: Combat social and emotional isolation Prevent ‘burnout’ and reduce stress Use creative tools to explore some of the emotional challenges of parenting during these hugely challenging times Increase confidence, self-esteem and self-compassion Provide a safe and supportive environment to try out new skills and make sustainable changes and create a network of support. Whilst we are sad to be closing Mums4aChange we are very proud of the past 7 years activity that has seen hundreds of parent-carers participate in Time4You groups, Meet-Up groups and more latterly be part of the YourTime4aChange Substack community. We are very grateful to all the parent carers who came to our sessions and for the funding we had in previous years to provide this service.
Our stakeholders are mothers and parents in need of support to focus on their emotional wellbeing, in particular those whose children who are neuro-divergent or have additional needs and who are in challenging circumstances. They have let us know that the groups have provided a life-line. Stakeholders continue to shape and influence mums4achange via: group agreement with each group which includes the structure of the sessions feedback at the end of sessions so we can use this to shape the groups for future participants opportunities to co-facilitate meet-ups and group work
