In the financial year, League of Artisans (LoA) undertook international and local initiatives that directly supported artisans, promoted cultural heritage and empowered communities. Dignity of the Hand: An Artisan Manifesto Following wide international consultation with artisans, civil society and cultural practitioners from Asia to Latin America, LoA launched Dignity of the Hand, a manifesto outlining nine ethical principles for preserving cultural heritage and securing dignity for artisans. It has received global recognition and been disseminated internationally. International Webinars LoA hosted six international webinars under the theme From Leek to Liberty via India, covering natural dyeing, block printing, local textile heritage, and environmental concerns. Rooted in Staffordshire’s rich history, the webinars featured community voices, artisan-makers from India and the UK, and academic experts. All sessions are publicly available on YouTube. Leek Textile Week (23–29 September 2024) LoA initiated and organised the first Leek Textile Week, delivering over 55 community-led activities including workshops, talks, and exhibitions celebrating Leek’s textile legacy. Collaborations with local volunteers, former mill workers, and artists created opportunities for inclusive storytelling, co-creation, and intergenerational knowledge sharing. Over 5,397 attended in person and 1,626 participated online. Artistic collaborations included flag-making, oral history animations, and live weaving with artisans from Nila House, India. Leek Textile Weekend (January 2024) A smaller pilot event in January 2024 tested community engagement strategies ahead of the main festival. Activities included storytelling, workshops, and the beginning of collaborative planning with local groups. Climate Change Toolkit LoA is developing a British Council–supported toolkit titled Inspiring Creative Action to Help Artisan Communities Surmount Climate Change Induced Disaster. Drawing on lived experiences from the Philippines, India, Peru, Sri Lanka, and others, the toolkit is co-created with communities and aims to enhance post-disaster recovery and climate resilience for artisan-led micro-businesses, especially women-led. These initiatives reflect LoA’s mission to elevate artisan knowledge, foster sustainability, and build equitable cultural exchange through community-centred action.
PART 2 – CONSULTATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS – A “stakeholder” is any person or organisation affected by the company’s activities. Please indicate who the company’s stakeholders are; how the stakeholders have been consulted and what action has the company taken in response to feedback from its consultations. If there has been no consultation you must state ‘There has been no stakeholder consultation held’. Stakeholders include artisans, civil society, researchers, local community members, advisory board members, and project funders. Stakeholder consultation is integral to all LoA activities. Feedback is gathered through webinars, workshops, social media, direct communications (email, WhatsApp, phone), and formal steering groups. Actions based on feedback include: Dignity of the Hand Manifesto: Developed through broad consultation; ethical principles were refined via feedback on LoA’s website. Leek Textile Week: A diverse Steering Committee shaped the programme. Local stories were collected through interviews, workshops, and participatory mapping (Sew Your Place). Community artists co-created works based on these stories, including animations featuring former textile worker voices from the town. Climate Change Toolkit: Co-designed through global dialogues with artisan communities, NGOs, and researchers. Advisory Board is regularly consulted via Zoom and email. Webinars: Artisans, researchers and community members participated as speakers and attendees. Comments were welcomed and responded to. LoA maintains an active mailing list of over 10,000 and shares opportunities and programmes through Eventbrite and social media. Feedback indicates strengthened community identity, pride, and deeper engagement with heritage.
The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £42,843 including employer's contributions. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed
