COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LARABELLES C.I.C.

Company Number: 13055375 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Larabelles is a community for PHP and Laravel developers underrepresented due to their gender. We provide a safe space for our members to seek help, new professional opportunities, and connections, as well as promote their accomplishments and projects. During our fourth year, we continued adding members to our online directory which currently features 84 developers (an increase of 38 developers since last year), as well as our Discord server which currently has over 360 members (an increase of over 160 members since last year). We have encouraged and supported our members to submit talks to well-known Laravel conferences Laracon (EU, US, AU, IN) as well as other PHP conferences. This led to the highest number of women speakers during the recent conferences which the general Laravel community contributed to Larabelles and our support system. We also run multiple giveaways. With the help of our sponsors, we gave away tickets to the following conferences: Laracon EU, Laravel Live London, Laravel Live Denmark, Laracon US, Laracon AU. The winner of the giveaway received a ticket to the conference as well as financial help to cover the travel and accommodation expenses. This meant that people that would not be able to attend these conferences were given an opportunity to do so. We run a successful mentor/mentee programme where we pair developers that seek and offer help. This has led to our members feeling more confident about their professional careers as well as creating new relationships and making new friends. We have also started the Larabelles podcast to share the stories of our members, with the aim to build empathy, break down assumptions, and inspire a more inclusive and understanding world.

Consultation with stakeholders

Larabelles primary stakeholders are the Larabelles community members, Larabelles team members, Larabelles sponsors as well as Laravel Inc, the company behind the Laravel framework. Our members are consulted on most of our actions and activities, and they take an active part in shaping Larabelles future. Larabelles secondary stakeholders are Larabelles mentors, Laravel Inc. partners, Laracon conference organisers as well as our allies – companies that support our mission. Our consultations happen on the Discord platform in the form of an informal chat or in person during conferences. We also have online meetings when the need arises. As a result of these meeting, we are able to continue to provide financial as well as technical support to our members. We are also in the process of creating an online shop with a branded merchandise. We redesigned our website with the aim to provide more information about our community and any events happening, and we have a regular newsletter to provide a different channel to share our events, giveaways and job opportunities. We are also starting the Larabelles podcast to provide a different way to learn about our community members. Overall feedback we receive from our members is that the community is a great support network, and we should continue doing what we are doing right now – connecting people across the world and providing a safe space to discuss technical as well as non-technical topics.
