COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

EARTH KIDS ARTS & SPORTS ACADEMY CIC

Company Number: SC789307 (Scotland)

Year Ending: 30 November 2024

Company activities and impact

Earth Kids successfully delivered a comprehensive programme of educational and recreational activities, generating significant benefits for the local Edinburgh community during the period ending 30 November 2024. Throughout the year, we have continued to develop and refine a model that encourages children and their parents to step outside their homes, engage with others, and work towards shared goals. This approach has helped families expand their social networks, reduce isolation, and create opportunities for meaningful interaction. Guided by the specific needs of our community, we offered a diverse range of courses, including art, chess, public speaking, dance, Chinese language and cultural studies, study skills, and emotional management with focus training. We maintained our commitment to accessibility by running classes even with very small groups sometimes as few as four students ensuring that every child had the chance to participate. Many children arrived feeling shy or hesitant, but over time they grew in confidence, became more socially outgoing, and developed friendships across cultural backgrounds. Recognising the unique challenge of maintaining Chinese language skills among heritage families, we introduced an innovative homework incentive system using Pokemon cards. This simple yet effective method transformed homework from a source of stress into a source of pride and excitement. Children who completed homework regularly were rewarded with collectible cards, which not only boosted motivation but also improved parent–child relationships by reducing conflict at home. Teachers also benefited from higher engagement and consistent homework submissions, fostering a more positive learning environment. The impact of these activities on the community has been significant. Families have found a welcoming space where cultural heritage is preserved while integration into Scottish society is actively supported. Parents have built connections with others who share similar challenges, while children have gained confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging. By creating a consistent, inclusive, and culturally relevant programme, Earth Kids has strengthened social cohesion and promoted wellbeing across our community.

Consultation with stakeholders

Primary Stakeholders The primary stakeholders of Earth Kids Arts & Sports Academy are children and young people aged 4 to 25, together with their parents and carers. During this reporting period, actual participation was predominantly from children aged 4 to 16. This reflects the current pattern of local demand, with families of younger children most engaged with our programmes. Despite this, all activities remain open to the full intended age range, and efforts continue to reach older youth where possible. Stakeholder Engagement Stakeholders were consulted through multiple channels: Direct feedback from children during sessions Discussions and informal surveys with parents and carers Input from teachers and instructors observing children’s progress Actions Taken in Response to Feedback Feedback from stakeholders has guided several programme developments: Introduction of an incentive system for homework completion, which improved engagement and strengthened parent child relationships Implementation of activities promoting cross cultural interaction, including workshops and family events celebrating Chinese festivals and participation in community events such as the Edinburgh Marathon Adjustments to class sizes and course offerings to ensure personalised attention and greater confidence building opportunities for children Ongoing Monitoring We continue to monitor participation trends and stakeholder feedback to ensure our programmes remain relevant, accessible, and beneficial to all children and young people within our intended age range.
