COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PERMANENT EDUCATION CIC

Company Number: 13782885 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

During this financial year (2024), Permanent Education CIC has benefited the community by supporting schools, teachers, and pupils to develop more sustainable, creative, and inclusive approaches to education. We have delivered professional development workshops in metacognition, oracy and Philosophy for Children, enabling teachers to embed reflective and dialogic practices in their classrooms. This has helped pupils to gain confidence in their communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, supporting their broader success in life beyond academic attainment. We have also worked with schools and local communities on climate action planning and sustainability projects. Through our Creating Circular Schools programme, for example, we engaged pupils in exploring food systems, procurement, and waste reduction, giving them practical opportunities to understand and address environmental challenges. These projects not only contribute to the Department for Education’s sustainability strategy but also strengthen links between schools and their wider communities. Parents and carers have also benefited from our work, as we have facilitated discussions on what success in life means and how families can support their children’s wellbeing and learning. In this way, our activities have helped to build stronger home–school partnerships, raised awareness of environmental and social issues, and promoted inclusive educational practices that value every child. Overall, our work this year has supported pupils to develop life skills, helped teachers to broaden their professional capacity, and fostered stronger, more resilient communities through education and sustainability initiatives.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our primary stakeholders are local schools, and we have maintained ongoing consultation with them throughout the year to ensure our activities remain relevant and impactful. Consultation has taken place through regular meetings with headteachers and senior leaders, feedback gathered during and after professional development workshops, and follow-up conversations with teachers participating in our projects. We have also listened to pupil and parent perspectives where schools have invited us to contribute to wider community discussions on education and sustainability. This feedback has directly shaped our programmes, including refining our metacognition and oracy training to meet classroom needs, adapting our sustainability projects to align with school priorities, and identifying new opportunities such as climate action planning support. By maintaining close dialogue with schools, we have been able to co-design initiatives that respond to real challenges and deliver tangible benefits for pupils, staff, and the wider school community.
