During the financial year, Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby CIC continued to deliver high-quality wheel-chair rugby opportunities for disabled individuals across the North East, with a strong focus on inclusion, development, and competitive progression. Our activities included: Weekly Adult and Junior Sessions: We ran regular training sessions at Gateshead Leisure Centre for both adult and junior players, providing all equipment and offering four free taster sessions to encourage new participants and reduce barriers to entry. Competitive Participation: We entered two teams into the Wheelchair Rugby 5s National Competition, competing in both the Premiership and League 3. We also proudly fielded a Women and Girls team in the GBWR National Women’s Cup, supporting the growth of female participation in the sport. Paralympic Format Debut: We played our first Paralympic wheelchair rugby match, marking a significant milestone in the club’s development and expanding opportunities for players to experience the full spectrum of the sport. Junior Development: We continued to grow our junior section, which is now recognised as one of the largest in the UK, offering a pathway for young disabled athletes to engage in sport, build confidence, and develop skills in a supportive environment. Community Impact: Our work has helped improve physical and mental wellbeing, reduce isolation, and build a strong sense of community among disabled individuals. We remain committed to our motto: “If you have a body, you’re an athlete.” Through these activities, Newcastle Wheelchair Rugby CIC has made a significant and measurable impact on the lives of disabled people in our region, promoting inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity through sport.

Introduced women and girls-only competition opportunities, including entry into the GBWR Women’s Cup Played our first Paralympic-format match following the introduction of more physically disabled people who qualify to play Paralympic wheelchair rugby.
