Company activities and impact

We have taken two groups of local people on a walk and talk around the memorial explaining all of the conflicts and wars and new projects. Tea and refreshments are served afterwards and questions answered. We have a further group coming on the 18th September. Each group is around 18 to 20 people in total. We have a new project where we have brought two gazebos to house names of all KP9 dogs killed while serving the community. A status is being supplied by the K9 search and rescue. This will be introduced as an educational aspect of animals that also serve this country. We have planted trees and interred ashes for veterans who have loved being a part of the memorial. The families can visit any time and this gives them enormous comfort. I believe we have done three in the last few months. We have conducted two barbecues and clay shoots for veterans so they can meet with other veterans who have also served. We have three small, converted sheds that are adapted with beds for veterans who need to get away and time out. Plus we have done two cream teas for older veterans and a small service on each occasion. Plus we have one more cream tea and clay shoot for some Royal Navy vets all of this while maintaining the site. We have for the last three years had a camping group for families, some with disabled children and adults who visit all the archives and we talk to them about the memorial. It becomes a safe haven for 5 days as the entrance is monitored for their stay. This time creates a very good educational benefit to all the children and adults, and has been very successful. So much so that the comments on our Facebook site for the Living Memorial have been very complimentary. We often stop our work to spend time with visitors, making tea or coffee and listening to their experiences. With the inclusion of the fire service archive we often get serving and retired firefighters who sadly recognise the names of fallen firefighters they served with and were friends. I have no doubt that this very much helps with their overall mental well being for us to take time out to listen. For the time invested to maintain our memorial to a peaceful and aesthetic place for all veterans to find peace of mind and comfort.
