The company was established to improve enthusiasm for contemporary dance in the community and support the professional development of local artists. In the period November 2023-October 2024, the company completed the first double bill performance that had been organised in the previous year. We presented this double bill at Crescent Arts Centre as part of Belfast International Arts Festival. Two performances during this festival helped to establish the company on the local arts scene and to bring contemporary dance to new audiences. The double bill also supported a local dance artist to complete a new commission. We developed our understanding of how to support a disabled commissioned artist and connect with an audio describer to reach the visually impaired community. In Spring of 2024 we launched community classes in East Belfast holding a children’s creative contemporary dance class and an adult’s ‘dance for wellbeing’ class. We ran two further blocks of classes and are continuing to build on these. In Summer we delivered a dance workshop as part of a wellbeing course for women organised by Barnardo's. We have spent time fundraising for future projects, notably two applications for British Council in collaboration with Anti Status Quo company in Brasilia Brazil. Although unsuccessful, we have had helpful conversations on how we might collaborate in future. We were successful in securing funding from Belfast City Council to run a youth engagement project. The project is planned to run in two layers: one, to deliver subsidised workshops in schools. The second stage is to run an intensive course for teenagers leading to a performance. Director Suzannah McCreight attended a business development mentorship programme ‘Go Succeed’ run by Work West. This led to help with fundraising and success in securing funding for a new computer to assist in the growth of the company and the running of all company activities, both administrative and creative.
The company’s stakeholders are 1. local dance artists and other performers with an interest in movement education and professional development. 2. other companies who require the service of a dance teacher or choreographer 3. charities or education providers who are interested in dance workshops for their programmes. 4. participants in our community classes. We consulted with Bernardo’s charity in delivering dance workshops for wellbeing. Significant consultations with schools began to help book workshops for our youth project. In planning the intensive course, we consulted with venues and have found support from Crescent Arts Centre. Conversations have begun with community groups (in the Greater Shankhill area) leading to possible partnerships on future community projects. We continue to gather feedback from class participants as we plan for the next block of classes.
The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £2769. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
