Company activities and impact

PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY’S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT In the space provided below, please insert a general account of the company’s activities in the financial year to which the report relates, including a description of how they have benefited the community. The Community Interest Company has expanded its activities during this calendar year. The Number of venues has increased from 20 in the previous reporting year to 25 and in addition reached more areas of the Borough of Bury and beyond to towns such as Heywood, Rochdale, Bolton and Warrington. In this year we have continued to keep in touch with our members through text though will have to change this to email or other platform in view of the anticipated rise in costs of our existing method. Our current text run extends to 460 people who receive regular (usually weekly) updates on the events we are staging in each venue. We continue to email a whole range of local service providers both in the voluntary and public sector who care for vulnerable people in the community. We have again emailed directly all the Bury MBC councillors to increase awareness of the CIC, to highlight venues in their constituencies and have received two donations. Our core objectives remain unchanged as per the previous years because feedback from attendees and venues confirm the principles identified in our survey last year. i.e. The importance of : Getting out of the house Making new friends Meeting people Improving mental health including combating loneliness Social interaction Being in a friendly atmosphere Good company The lunchtime concerts continue to provide a means for older people to come together in a safe and friendly environment, with others. There is a clear benefit for those who might live on their own and who might be more reluctant to leave home. In achieving this the lunchtime concerts have been able, with the help of very modest funding and generous donations, to provide a significant benefit to a lot of people across the Borough and beyond. Personal testimonies received from members continue to inspire us and motivate us to keep developing this service. An example is one member who said that they were considering suicide before encountering our events and that the lunchtime cabaret events had ‘saved their life’ This being an extreme example of the positive testimonies we receive regularly. There are many more. We continue to operate through voluntary directors as our funding and turnover is very modest. The majority of the financial turnover being centred on the venue’s receipts from sales from our members and their payments to artists directly.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders are elderly residents of the Bury Metropolitan Borough and beyond who attend our Cabaret Lunch Club. We keep in touch through social media, email and text. We now have and have 450 on our contact list who have requested to be provided with regular information texts. As detailed in the previous section, we have received a great deal of direct positive feedback from attendees. This informs our decision to keep our model simple and straightforward and expand to more venues rather than expanding and developing the nature of the offer. In addition, we continue to have an excellent working relationship with the HMR Circle a charitable organisation who have been funding the launch of a Cabaret Lunch Club in Rochdale. Finally, this year we have developed our links with both social prescribers and care homes and provide each with regular information about our venues and the events we’re staging. This has increased participation wherever it is in place.
