Using imagination, creativity, collaboration and art to empower communities in raising awareness of the climate and ecological crises, and be key contributors to improving the local environment by changing their behaviour and inspire others to help bring about community change for a sustainable world. During the financial year 2024-2025 the companies activities have benefitted the community by running workshops for Norfolk elders, children and teenage refugees in collaboration with various partners exploring nature for wellbeing and using art to learn about the science behind climate and biodiversity crises and communicate messages of hope and inspiration for change. SYSTA also developed a free Artivism Toolkit for secondary school teachers and home educators using the arts to talk about and communicate climate change, linked to the planetary boundaries, promoting wellbeing and discovering local plants and animals within the biodiverse tapestry of where we live. The Toolkit was developed with feedback from students, climate scientists and environmental educators at the University of York and Stockholm Environment Institute at York.
The companies stakeholders/beneficiaries are residents of Norfolk who take part in workshops and events. SYSTA involve beneficiaries in project planning and delivery, helping shape workshop content, sharing updates on social media and inviting them to join the SYSTA committee of volunteers. Participant ideas at one workshop can then be taken forwards and used with them at the next one. SYSTA undertakes feedback during each session, with informal chats and group feedback discussions, inviting participants to give ideas for nature and science topics they would like to explore, plus art techniques they would like to try, as well as online feedback forms after every project to help improve future workshops. SYSTA has been gathering feedback every 3 months on the 12 month project to gauge changes in participants behaviour and needs.
